Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers

Is OW going to claim she didn’t know the rumors while being such close buds with Harv ????

Another reason for her to remain a powerful "influencer" and not a candidate. Though the idea of conservatives scolding liberals for being unwoke on sexual assault is ludicrous. For liberals it's hypocrisy. For conservatives it's practically a tenet of their party platform.

Why do we care? Seriously. We have a predator in the White House and we care what anyone knew about Harvey? Really? That's what we're going with now?

I care if the person is now acting high and mighty because people like him were taken down. (I am not saying she was I have zero interest in her speech so I dont know) If you knew and did nothing you have zero right to use the issue to prop yourself up. That goes doubly for people like Oprah since she is one of the most powerful and influential people around.

Oh and if by some fluke she becomes the nominee I am walking away. I will sell my soul to elect Clinton because she was qualified...Oprah has no experience and is just the Liberal version of Trump (though way smarter) and I want nothing to do with that. If the Dems are that stupid they deserve to lose and lose badly.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers

My friend posted this about Oprah's speech:

Here’s the thing... maybe, just maybe, she stirred something inside our spirits that went beyond abject despair and sadness. She spoke about possibility. She spoke about justice. She spoke about having voice and agency. She spoke well. She spoke with clarity. She spoke with conviction. She spoke with poise.

Viable or not
Legitimate or not
Serious or not

It is nice to have something that stirs you to a point where you can believe in something again. That is hope.

It’s a beautiful thing, hope, and I’m sure thankful she handed it out. It’s one of my favorite things. And it cost nothing but conviction.

I totally agree. Her speech was amazing. I really like Oprah. I do not want her to run for president. This isn't a case of "anything you can do, I can do better."

It's interesting to me how it's always the Republicans who can get away with it. Never the Democrats. Oprah against Trump should be a bloodbath but I have to agree with Handy that the Dems would lose. The white women vote probably would go 70-30 instead of 53-47.

For me it's not so much the purity thing, though that's certainly something to think about as it can be used against her. It's more that she's just not a great candidate for a variety of reasons and has kinda shown in the past that she's more of the "bootstraps" type and holds some conservative views that are out of touch with reality. That and the fact that she has no experience in terms of foreign policy or really anything in the political world and we need less of that not more.

You're forgetting that we just elected the most least qualified Republican/Democratic candidate of my lifetime in 2016. Or, you are remembering that? Remember, the Presidency is more about who the President hires than the President him/herself. And, the Trump administration was going to "hire" the best people. How'd that turn out? I'm willing to bet Oprah would get the best people. By a long shot.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers

Ok? None of this makes her a good candidate it just makes her barely more qualified than Trump. We can and need to do better.

She's not that intelligent. She gave safe harbor to pseudo-scientific quackery for years.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers

Who would take a $1000 bucks if it meant not getting $1250 in welfare aid, or meant paying an extra $1100 in taxes?

Hey don't look at me. I think the whole idea is unworkable on just about every level.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers

I disagree on the need to disqualify someone like Oprah based on a lack of political experience - if electability makes the difference then that trumps it.

Is political experience preferable? Of course. But political experience is not as important assuming 1) the person being elected is quite intelligent (Oprah qualifies and so did a one term congressman Barack Obama) 2) they are willing to hire the best to support them and listen (Obama yes and Trump no) 3) they have much better moral fiber than their opponent (would you seriously rather have Donald Trump in office who has no problem demeaning and destroying than Oprah?). So if electability makes the difference...then yes, give me someone under the above conditions and you can bet they'll have my vote.

Rest easy that queen is not in your hand yet, 'best friend' Gayle King revealed that Oprah has no plans to run for president. "I don't think her position has changed, I don't."
