2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

IMO I need these (4) things. Although it's too late for me for most of them.

1. Wealth Tax (see Elizabeth Warren for details).
2. The Progressive tax outlined by AOC. Basically 70% over 10 million. 1 and 2 are both required.
3. Green New Deal. I actually know and understand what this is and what it's going to accomplish if passed and then implemented.
4. Medicaid for all under 50 (this is Obamacare with a public option added). Medicare for all over 50. This is Medicare for everyone over 50. This is a compromise, compromise on my part. Private Insurance still exists. People will still be buying Medicare supplemental insurance so it doesn't destroy the private market (though the private market deserves to be destroyed).

If you're not proposing these 4 things or something close to it I will not support you in the primary and I will likely be holding my nose on election day. As of right now Warren and Bernie are the only ones in the ballpark.

Add: tax all income the same -- cap gains is now just income, no lower rate.

While that is nice personally...if Taxes are the top issue for the Dems they will be in trouble. A lot of people dont even realize they got fleeced and the Dems always sound way too snooty when they discuss tax policy. That is a "we can discuss it when we win" deal for me. (even though I agree with what Bernie and Warren say for the most part)

Even the 35% support Medicare for all...Bernie proved that on Faux last week. That needs to be the top of the agenda and the first thing out of the candidates mouth EVERY TIME. Paint the GOP and Trump as frauds on Health Care looking to take it away from everyone. Hell it is the one thing that even the Boogeyman of "Socialism" cant kill because people want to have access to Health Care...ESPECIALLY old people.

The road map is clear...any candidate that doesnt at least support Medicare for All needs to step aside. That issue wins back the WH and a bigger majority in the House in 2 years.

The other issues can be discussed but cant be as "all or nothing" as Health Care is because those issues fracture. The Dems need to stick to what unites and what wins. They go too wonky and casuals tune out.

Any candidate who doesn't address taxes and income inequality is a complete waste of time as far as I'm concerned.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

That is a great video...doesnt change a thing. I like Reich as much as the next guy but I dont think having the electorate watch that video makes taxes any more of a winner for the Left than it was before. Hell most of them wont even make it past Myth 1. Hell people on here have screwed up how the tax code works and they actually care.

I am all for raising the tax rate but that cant be a top of the agenda item EXCEPT when it comes to being asked how we pay for Medicare For All.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

The taxes stuff should probably just be used to answer, "how will you pay for it!?", and mostly just be at a high level rather than getting super wonky about it.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

So, we're going to run on Health Care and we're going to pay for it. That's the big plan. Boy, I'm so excited I can't wait to get out and vote.

Joe Biden is thrilled.

Elizabeth and Bernie? Stay home. AOC, shut up.

Scoobs, this is why no one takes your posts very seriously. You find a major issue the majority of both sides can agree on, that Republicans basically want to destroy, and yet somehow the sky is still falling for the Democrats.

Why? Cause I want more than Obamacare 2.0 after 40+ years of the **** I've been shoveled?

Both sides agree on it? No. Everyone cheers Medicare for all. Until their taxes go up. Then they'll revolt just like they always revolt. Without addressing the taxes issue you've accomplished nothing. Obamacare was a net loss for me and most Americans that's why the Republicans gained so much traction after it was passed.

If you all want to repeat 2010 feel free. Don't say you weren't warned.

You'd rather repeat 2016? OK...

I've been told ever since that election that the only reason the Dems lost was Hillary Clinton. She's not running this time. Why are we so timid and afraid?

This is exactly why Real Time has become pure drudgery.

Hahaha...you cant even pretend we were wrong about you for like 3 hours before you jump off the cliff. Classic Scooby. :D

You dont even read what people post you find one half sentence and then spew your little talking points and pretend you made a point. And dont say you didnt because there is no way you actually read what I posted and still posted the reply you did because even Trump isnt that stupid.

trix literally said the same thing I did. Again we never agree on ANYTHING.

No one is saying taxes isnt something to fix we are saying the electorate tunes out when you get to talking tax policy. They dont care, they dont get it and they dont have the patience to learn. The more wonky you get on it the worse you do. They understand what they know affects them the most. Health Care is something that they have to deal with. They want health care. They want Medicare For All. (no one mentioned ObamaCare but you) Bernie proved it. The Midterms proved it is a winning issue. Run on the issue that wins and fix the rest when you win.

The only person telling people to shut up and go home is you...none of us said that and we certainly never did about Warren, Bernie or AOC. All sides of the debate are talking about what we need to do to win. Winning is the most important thing. You have nothing if you dont win. It doesnt matter if you are on the right side of every issue if you lose you get nothing. In this game there is no silver medal for second place. Win, then set things back the way they were.

I read it.

I disagree with everything you just said.

Winning isn't everything. We won in 2008 and by 2010 it was over. And even though he won reelection in 2012 it didn't matter. Obamacare fix is what most of the candidates are running on. Context matters.

Why do you think the blue wave happened? Healthcare was one of the central issues.

Fair enough, I think we’re mostly on the same side but if you actually have an aggressive healthcare plan why wouldn’t you put that in the forefront? It even got faux news rubes excited.
