Beto may not appear so now. But he may well be ready in a year. The race is too early to call.

Bernie responds to criticisms of his newfound wealth.

Certainly too early. All we are seeing right now is whether a candidate is able to appeal superficially with the introductions that the MSM and the comedy show circuit bestow during the Play In Round:

Surprisingly good: Mayor Pete

Cromulent: Kamala, Amy

Surprisingly poor: Beto, Castro, Booker maybe

Undefined: Inlsee, Hickenlooper

Already known quantities (have lost new car smell; not relevant in the Novelty Phase): Liz, Bernie, Handsome Joe

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

I like Castro personally...if I had a choice it would be him over Beto in a head to head.

I was predisposed to like him but everything I've seen of him over the last 4 years (which TBH isn't an enormous amount, but it is something) is that he is an empty, engaging smile.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

Among the candidates who are running, or those who are assumed to be running, who would struggle to win their home state if they won the nomination? Besides Pete Buttigieg? He finally made it official this afternoon at a rally in South Bend.

It hasn't been that long since a Democrat won Indiana -- Obama in 2008 -- but that shocked many people, including me. It was the first time in 44 years a Democrat had won Indiana in a presidential election. Frankly, if the race in the rest of the country had been closer I suspect the republicans would have screamed "fraud" at the results. He failed to repeat that win in 2012 and trump beat Hillary by about a thousand points in 2016. Buttigieg doesn't have many negatives holding him back in his home state, except for one big one. My guess is if he was the party's nominee he'd hold his own in the Hoosier state but would come up a little short to trump.

2 months ago I wouldn't have given him a chance at the nomination. Today I give him a chance. Not sure how big, but some chance is better than no chance. If our politics worked well, I think he'd make an effective president. But then again, if our politics worked well, a lot of people might make effective presidents.

Oops, misread the question. Obviously Beto would, it's Texas. Some of the really weak candidates probably would too like Hickenlooper.

Hickenlooper currently holds his second term in a statewide office in a state Hillary won by 5% and appears to be getting increasingly bluer. I think he's alright.

Jeff Bezos owned paper attacking Bernie there’s a shocker.

Residents of South Bend hate him. Not sure how that will scale nationally.

I can't figure out how Biden, who hasn't even officially announced that he's running, is polling as high as he is. In fact, I will probably never understand why the two fossils are polling way above everyone else. And before the Bernouts start, yes I know demsoc is a popular position now.

I always wonder who is being polled
