Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers VII: Bon Voyage Beto

Bernie has basically created a left-wing version of the Tea Party, but none of them are self-aware enough to admit it.

The Tea Party got many people elected and accomplished many things. Has Bernie's movement done the same? The Tea Party moved the needle to the right to exactly where it is exists today. You can point directly to them when you see the Bill Graveyard reported that exists on Turtle Boy's desk.

As far as I can tell Bernie has a small faction of electee's in the House.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers VII: Bon Voyage Beto

Except for the part where it's far more popular than the tea party and the ideas are actually good, it's just like the tea party!

And that it's principled and not cynical.

And that it's grassroots and not astroturfed.

But otherwise, it's like a mirror image. ;)

Wealth inequality is destabilizing.

"We must make our choice. We may have democracy, or we may have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both." -- Louie Brandeis

To this point in time we've chosen to have it concentrated. Trickle Down is still the overriding principle employed by the American Economy.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers VII: Bon Voyage Beto

I don't think anybody on either side buys into trickle down anymore except for billionaires and the think tank employees who are getting their salaries paid by the plutes. That's why the GOP is now embracing blatant racism as opposed to tax issues to appeal to the base. In a perverse way it makes sense. Trickle down is a promise that economically disadvantaged areas will see some benefit from top tier tax cuts. Obviously even the dumbest SOB in places like Kentucky or Kansas have figured out they're getting jack #$%* from tax cuts, so Republicans don't even try that schtick anymore. Instead its all KKK rhetoric nowadays.

They have?

Um...yes Scoobs. Bevin wasn't campaigning on trickle down economics in his recent governor's race. He was campaigning against sanctuary cities (which Bashaer correctly noted Kentucky doesn't have any of).

Until the GOP is in power and is unable to pass a tax cut while they're in power I don't buy it. You cannot just call Trickle Down Dead right after they have just stolen another trillion dollars.

It doesn't work that way.

Also, it's not like tax increases are passing with flying colors. We can't get certain ones even in Minnesota that we desperately need.

Same in Mass.

Plenty of MAGA hats still believe in tax cuts, even if it's only enough for them to afford an extra dirty 30 of Busch Light every month. As long as they believe in the "Welfare Queen" myth of single black mamas feasting on steak and lobster with their SNAP benefits, they'll continue to believe in tax cuts.

And as I understand it the same GOP that apparently is not running on trickle down anymore is cutting SNAP benefits. SNAP benefits that by all accounts are more expensive to regulate it the way the GOP wants them regulated than to just hand them out as they have been for decades.

That by any measure is TRICKLE DOWN economics. It's not a "tax cut" but it is the same theme.

Don’t recall anyone saying “trickle down” in 2016/2017

The tax cuts were deeply unpopular and the GOP lost a ton of seats though. There are republicans that still believe they're beneficial but it's no longer all of them like it used to be.

That's not the point.

The point is and always has been that the economic model that we currently are living under in the United States is entirely trickle down. It has been since 1980. There hasn't been a single bill passed by Congress that changes that fact.

We as a country have not even TRIED another method. Supply Side rules the roost. It has my entire working life.

It's not kumbaya. It's important that we all continue to respect and value each other. Our opinions come and go; they're the froth on the surf. Our energy and commitment are the only power we have to change things so don't erode it.

Wanna get mad at somebody? Get mad at the Republicans. Wanna attack somebody? Attack Dump. Democrats, regardless of our differences, are never the problem. We're fighting for the future of humanity. It's 1929 and we're fighting Hitler. We are each an extension of the other's strength and vice versa. How we treat each other will determine whether we win.

Sorry but that's crap. I can get mad at Republicans and Democrats alike. Doesnt mean I am voting for Trump or not voting. I do not have to hold hands with morons just to make sure I vote Dem. And again if someone else changes their vote because their fee fees were hurt online...that's on them.

I work with an office full of people who think Reaganomics worked perfectly and the only reason they didn't see any of it was "taxes are too high."

I wish I was kidding.
