2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

My brother had an insurance replacement phone shipped UPS to him a few years back. Just a fancy dumb phone, not a smart phone. Saw the UPS truck drive through the neighborhood and not stop at his apartment. Three hours later, he checks and UPS tracking said the "signature required" package was *just* dropped off.

Checks entry to the building. A stack of boxes, but not his.

It's small town Michigan so he calls the UPS hub where the driver was dispatched from. Talks to a manager and asks where this package is, otherwise he needs to file a police report with the State Police so the insurance company can send *another* replacement phone.

Manager says the driver just returned, puts my brother on hold, manager then says the driver will "fix the issue."

Turns out, the UPS driver (and likely the manager) just stopped giving a sh*t about his (their) job(s) and were upright stealing packages, but felt compelled (likely because of the mention of the police) to return my brothers delivery to him that evening.

Despite the UPS return mailing label, he paid the USPS to return the broken phone. Oh and he still notified the State Police about the incident too.

We had a weird incident at work related to that once, I think it was a USPS driver but basically they had been doing something similar, not delivering mail basically and our work got a subpoena from the feds.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

CNN is so worried about being accused of "rigging it" they are letting everyone friggin talk. Its stupid. It was cute for one debate but come on 3/4 of these clowns dont even belong on the stage.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

Blame the DNC.

Having said that, the field will be culled before the 3rd debate by the higher qualification standards. And we're still 6 months from the Iowa caucuses and 15 months from the general election. Frankly, it's absurd we're already having debates.

Parise, is it.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

Agreed. Townhalls would suffice and would help cull the field.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

Who cares? When Bernie loses, you know the botskis will still scream that the DNC and the MSM rigged it for Harris or Warren or whomever.

You do realize that this time the botskis are peddling the noises you just emitted?

The point is never one candidate or philosophy over another; it's FUD. The only reason Putin supported Dump was FUD and boy is it working.

I don't understand why they don't just gradually raise the poll bar thus knocking out the non-starters. 3% seems like a reasonable barrier to me. That would leave 8 or 9.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

I wish they would cut it down now but most of the noise about it is coming from the right-wing s**t-bubble and the next round should see the field whittled down quite a bit.

For the same reason they make whatever decisions they make...because they are wishy washy and sackless. You dont want to dare upset anyone and the 5 people who support him/her. Some of these people are going to be paid talking heads going forward and you want them to be on your station not MSNBC.

Plus, again, they dont want to be seen as rigging it. These days no one seems to be able to let things go when they lose and CNN doesnt want to be the next DWS or Donna Brazille who gets tarred and feathered because the Twitter Caucus wanted someone else. They are cowards.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

The ability of you guys to look on the dark side of everything is amazing, but there might be a simpler reason. By doing an "all in" debate, just like the Goopers did in 2016, you give everyone a platform to state their case. Nobody is excluded unless they can't pass a ridiculously low bar. If they can't gain any traction then the hope is there's no hard feelings amongst the lower tier and they go back to their day jobs while everyone stays focused on fighting the KKK.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

Plus, this is confusing to Trump. No clear Dem front runner to name call means he can be distracted by the freshman representatives who aren't eligible to run for President until 2028.

Its CNN...its what they are known for. They condemn evil then broadcast the evil the next half hour. You know this you rip them for it every other day ;)

The way they're doing it is fine.

Trump's strategy after last night is clear. He wants the squad to be the face of the Democratic Party. He wants to run against them. He was successful with this tactic last time. The media fell for it. All his voters fell for it. It might work.

Dump's voters aren't the issue. They will do whatever he tells them to do.

The election comes down to whether Democrats fall for all the garbage the Russians and the right lay down to divide us. This election is a simple IQ test. Can we get to a nominee and then support that nominee in such a way that on Election Day we all vote, and all vote straight ticket D? It is no more complicated than that.

It's going to require a change of behavior. Dems who are used to being super critical of each other are going to have to stop it. When we support our candidate we are going to have to not tear down somebody else's. In a word we are going to have to be adults and exercise tact and restraint. We are going to have to be responsible and not reward irresponsible rhetoric. The exact opposite of what social media encourages us to do.

Dumpies aren't the problem, they're the disease. The problem is Dems who are cutting on other Dems.

I question whether that change of behavior will happen.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

I question whether that change of behavior will happen.

Our job is to see that it does.

It's always difficult to herd Democratic cats. You can't just tell them a command comes from the sky and you can't appeal to them through racial hatred or misogyny. There has to be logic and friendship in the advice.

My logic is: if we do this we win and these monsters will be denied power. Granting these monsters will always exist, we can push them back into their caves where the only harm they do is to each other.

My friendship is: it's a better way to be, in any case. The War of All Against All of social media is a horrible way to go through life. It leads to constant anger and alienation and loneliness. The members of a community come together to help each other. They assist without judgment and they strive for unity over division. This has been how communities have always flourished and how individuals within them are infinitely strengthened and heartened.

We already have the makings of awareness of our common cause. We know the world of tolerance, intelligence, humor, love, and freedom that we want to inhabit. The way to make that happen is to work together, be friends with one another, shut off the constant mewlings of the pundits and other servants of predatory marketing, and recover our humanity. With that come morality, ethics, happiness, righteousness, in short a good life. Liberalism has always been the path to a good, moral life. Commerce looks to destroy community: it is harder to sell useless crap to happy, fulfilled people. We can shut out the monsters from power by shutting them out from our lives: joining with each other and refusing to take the bait from all the economic entities surrounding us that fatten on our unhappiness and want us at each other's throats.
