Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Restrict what % of tuition can be paid for via loans/grants (scholarships excluded) and you'll see tuition rates drop lest enrollment plummet.

All that will do is give the rich the upper hand. They have enough of one already.

Maybe, but what if fees were lowered to keep it affordable enough for those that don't have anyone else paying their way?

Say a student has annual tuition of $25k/year all paid via loans. For instance this hypothetical law would restrict the % of the fees the loan can cover to 65%. A lot of students could not afford to pay $8,750 out of pocket and would drop out. To bring back demand say tuition were lowered to $18,000 and now $6,300 OOP becomes more manageable.

I'm just spit-balling numbers here and the idea just came to me. Maybe it's not workable but I tossed it out there.

It's certainly workable, but this would only be feasible if people were willing to stick to it for the long-term. In the short-term is where the blowback would be, people with the gut reaction similar to Scooby's.

She wont make it very far in the primaries but I think it is good she is considering it for now.

She was a lot better as an attack dog in 2016 than she'd be running in 2020

Maybe, but I think having her out there is going to keep a lot of the party on alert. She isnt Bernie trying to carpetbag his way into the nom she is a true blue Progressive Democrat who wont take crap from the Tom Perez's of the world.

Like I said she wont make it past Iowa most likely (and almost certainly will be dead on Super Tuesday if the Dems put up anyone likable) but she will be a thorn in the side of the candidate and will force them to work. She also will play much nicer in defeat than Bernie did.

Actually I don't think Warren is much of an attack dog. I think she's not very persuasive for really anyone esp independents and makes Pelosi look super charismatic in comparison. I'm sure many on the right smile every time she gets coverage.

Bernie was fine post-convention. (Some of) His voters are the issue.

Post convention he was fine...at the convention and before (even after he was done) he did nothing and he emboldened his followers.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

The election was lost in the fall, not the spring.

I disagree. With the margin so small and 100's of factors involved any one of them including the Spring could factually be the reason and not the reason at the same time. That's why it's so difficult to pin down.

Really...you dont think his attitude helped their "Screw this I am not voting for her" attitude? I mean it is possible but not likely. He isnt why she lost by a long shot but lets not pretend his schtick didnt have ramifications...and as always I say that as one of his earliest supporters. (who still supports him)

I think on the list of factors conspiring to put Donnie 2 Scoops into the White House, Bernie's attitude during the primary was about 100th on the list.

Comey's letter, general misogeny, and Clinton's inexcusable failure to campaign in Wisconsin or Michigan are the top 3 going away.
