Re: 2020 Democrat Challengers Part II: There Can Be Only One

can kep come up with a better reason that common folks are ascared of high tax rates?!?! :)

My standing reason why the common people do anything is they have the IQ of a slightly above average cricket.

Does mookie have a more likely reason than that?

Re: 2020 Democrat Challengers Part II: There Can Be Only One

Fear of high marginal taxation is less rooted in sympathy for billionaires and more in concern that the high marginal rate will remain the same, but the threshold for hitting that rate will be lowered...and lowered...and lowered....and....next thing you know the Zombie Tax Apocalypse is upon us!!!

Look, fear sells. It motivates voters, especially ones who don't understand taxes and finance. We should, of course, raise taxes up on the super rich. However, we also need to be prepared for the inevitable fear based campaign from our Russian allied friends in the GOP and not just expect the public to understand that this doesn't affect 99.99% of them.

This is all true. It's no reason not to do the right thing, however. As dumb as Republicans assume their voters are, Democrats assume their voters are as dumb as Republicans' and that simply hasn't been borne out by experience. If they were dumb enough to fall for Republican lies... they'd be Republicans.

Democratic leaders refuse to show any backbone when it comes to inequality. Democratic leaders are also rich. But I'm sure that is completely coincidental.

I'm sure it's not the narrative of the Hill and political pundit extraordinaire Nate Silver but...

From the Q:

Biden's at 42% of non-whites, while Bernie is at 7% behind Harris, O'Rourke and Warren. That makes a lot more sense. If Sanders was pulling in the young vote, AND the non-white vote, even with the overlap between those two he'd be running away with the race right now.

Holy crap the n in those crosstabs is ludicrously low. That approaches polling misconduct.

We shouldn't be surprised. When Sandernistas are losing, they often act no better than Trump.

You thought calling a gay man Buttchug was a clever play on words, and I'M the moron?
There's nothing inherently gay about butt chugging so maybe go be a disingenuous tw@t somewhere else...

Re: 2020 Democrat Challengers Part II: There Can Be Only One

356 isn't really low for a poll.

Firstly, yes, it is, when you're attempting to capture the entire national electorate. Reasonable polls have 1.5-2.5k.

But more importantly it is if you divide it up 6 different ways and then try to run comparisons inside those divisions.

I would maybe trust top line results in a sample so small. Inside that I trust nothing at all.

Anybody running for President is going to have to answer the question of how they feel about the Obama presidency. You have a fork in the road. On once side are the people who feel Dems have been doing nothing but losing over the past 40 years and have accomplished zilch (Kep/trix/Scooby's view IIRC). Then there are the people on the other side who thought Obama was a stellar President who get quite a bit done despite unprecedented opposition from a treasonous money laundering cult.

IF you are in the "nothing got done" crowd, you then split into "Obama was really a conservative" (Kep/trix) or "Obama was useless in fighting off the GOP" (Scooby). That's all well and good, but I'm not sure how either of those arguments appeals to the majority of Dem voters, particularly the non-white ones. Its a tightrope that only Sanders has had to address previously and even he was vague on the subject. If you want to run as anti-Bill Clinton you can get away with that. I don't see how you get away with running as the "Obama wasn't good enough" candidate.
