2019 Elections

Re: 2019 Elections

And in local news... The city of Holland, MI just elected a progressive mayor and a progressive to an at-large seat. The seat was held by Republicans prior.

And in Grand Rapids, a Bible-thumping turd was routed by the incumbent.

Re: 2019 Elections

For the first time in 38 years the Democrats have a majority in the Columbus, IN city council. Normally not a big deal, except it is home to some guy named Mike Pence and a Congressman named Greg Pence.

Democrats also flipped both houses of the Virginia legislature.

ETA: Locally, we elected Matt Nixon, a solar power advocate and progressive candidate to the Select Board here. Now to flip a couple more seats next year and get control.

Bashear (49.2) leads Bevin (48.8). Bashear proclaims an upset, AP says it's too close to call.

Also, more "good job, Virginia:" a Muslim has been elected to their Senate.

Let this continue with Moscow Mitch et al. F-ck em all.

Re: 2019 Elections

Dems with a complete sweep of VA now. We're a blue state. We did this against a GOP-drawn slate, too, so it's only going to get better.

I can't tell you how significant this is. We just beat the GOP in a traditional right wing stronghold, with the GOP leg still cheating. Not just that; we destroyed them.

VA, a slave state, has now formally joined the Free World. This is like liberation from Nazi occupation.

Re: 2019 Elections

I would like that. But tonight, Bevin is refusing to concede. Sore loser.

It's close and with his party in control of the state apparatus they can still try to steal it. We need to carefully watch this for the Republicans' usual African dictator schtick.

Re: 2019 Elections

Big f-cking deal buried in the KY analysis.

Bashear wins the Cincy white suburbs by 5 points. Dump won them by 25.

The GOP has eroded to white nationalists without education. Even easily frightened white suburbanites who used to be kneejerk scared by blacks (Reagan, Bush I, Dubya) are so sickened by the GOP they are now trending Democratic.

Also: RUN ON HEALTH CARE. That is what won KY. People don't want to lose their health care. The inbred stupidity of the GOP base no longer sells outside of the benighted toilets of the rural south which have not changed for 150 years.

Re: 2019 Elections

Safiya Khalid defeated a fellow Democrat on Tuesday to win a seat on the Lewiston City Council.

That makes Khalid, 23, the first Somali American elected to the council. She is also the youngest person to hold a seat on the council. Khalid won with 69.6 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results.

In her victory statement she declares “community organizers beat internet trolls”

America is still awesome. The temporary occupation by dou-chebags is circling the drain. We have always been the world in microcosm, struggling for freedom. To the terrified reactionaries among us: either put on your big girl panties and return to American values, or sod off.

Re: 2019 Elections

Democrat Regina Romero has been elected Tucson's first female and first Latina mayor.
