As a stutterer I find this post offensive.
It formed near the coast? Is that unusual?
In the Gulf? Not that unusual. However, this one is more NHC playing games trying to verify their preseason forecast.
At 8am, it was an area of disturbed weather with a 30% chance of becoming a named system before landfall.
At 11:45am, it was still an area of disturbed weather that "might" become a tropical depression before landfall.
At 1:00pm, it was Tropical Depression 11, with landfall expected in the next hour
At 1:45pm, it was Tropical Storm Imelda
At 2:30pm, it was inland.
It went from just a 30% chance of even developing to a Tropical Storm in under 6 hours. Either whomever was on the morning shift at NHC really blew it big time, or more likely, they got a report of strong winds in the middle of a thunderstorm on the coast and upgraded it based on 1 or two observations.
A bit alarmist and hype generating, but welcome to the Hurricane California?
