2019-20 NMU Hockey Season

Re: 2019-20 NMU Hockey Season

UMMM .. Don't remember seeing where I posted that "I" tried to get tickets or whether "I" would have had trouble getting tickets... just pointing out the empty seats in a rivalry game, in the playoffs and knowing that on FRIDAY morning they were calling NMU alumni with $9 tickets (would think most hockey fans would have had their tickets before then, but was probably a push to get non-hockey fans into empty seats). And you are correct and I was wrong, they never announced a shut out...my bad. I guess I was just assuming they would sell out when, like Joe pointed out and NMU said, they shut down sales of tickets until wednesday.

They shut down ticket sales until Wednesday to allow students to claim theirs. They ended up with a tickets sold attendance of 3209, or about 500 fewer than a sellout. As NMU didn't know if they'd host until less than a week before, season ticket holders well may have had other plans this weekend. Can't sell already purchased tickets.

Also, considering it was Spring Break, I'm not sure what you wanted them to do. My daughter stayed in Marquette, but her roommate didn't get back until about 4pm yesterday & missed claiming her ticket until just before puck drop. I would imagine more students will be back tonight and hopefully tomorrow.

Re: 2019-20 NMU Hockey Season

Season ticket holder seats. Some may have been at basketball playoff, some at hockey playoffs, some were on vacation. You can’t sell a seat someone has already paid for. Students had until Wednesday to get their tickets, those that weren’t claimed were released for sale on Wednesday.
Season ticket holders that know they can't go to the game (watching bouncyball, on vacation, etc) can certainly let someone else use their seats. Or, I don't know how NMU handles playoff tickets for season ticket holders, but if they are not required to buy them in their package, they should have been made available to the public prior to Wednesday. If they are required to buy them, they should have had a buyback a couple weeks ago for those who knew they would be unable to attend.

Having so many empty seats is not a good look for a community that just a few short years ago was "Hockeyville". A "hockey community" with that population should be able to fill more than 3200 seats (many of which were Tech fans). Besides, how many do they even have? 40-50 season ticket holders? That would be my guess judging from non-Tech games on Flo broadcasts during the regular season.

First round tickets are included in the season ticket price. Also, Tech is averaging a whopping 40 more fans than Northern. Shut the **** up

40 more fans is what percentage of enrollment and community population?

When the only other option in Houghton is banging your sister, i guess i can see where Tech hockey would have its appeal

Let's see... Tech hockey also competes with four high school hockey teams for fans.

And this board doesn't need your projecting about sister banging. Let's keep it to hockey, shall we?

Re: 2019-20 NMU Hockey Season

I'm curious what all these extra options people from Marquette have that Houghton doesn't....please elaborate..

Re: 2019-20 NMU Hockey Season

Not joking... Those websites prove what?? Marquette does better at centrally locating things going on in the community.... Please elaborate on what Marquette has that houghton doesn't...besides the elitist attitude.

Re: 2019-20 NMU Hockey Season

I guess you're right. All the Northern fans chose the Matilda Musical and the Vagina Monologues over playoff hockey against big brother.

Michigan College of Mining and Technology, Sault Ste Marie Branch is playing in Bemidji. Not sure why you'd bring them up when discussing NMU vs MTU.

One can have more than one big brother. MTU has a little brother (LSSU) and a little Sister (NMU), therefore NMU has two big brothers.

There's way more **** going on in Marquette. Just because none of it interests you is irrelevant. I figured being the Technological school I wouldn't have to explain such basic stuff to you, but guess I was wrong.

So I guess by the Marquette community choosing the "Vagina Monologues" over playoff hockey against a rival, maybe the town should not be called "Hockeyville" but rather "Vaginaville"?

It is basic and I have lived in both... Last I checked both have performing arts centers, both have movie theaters, both have hiking - biking - sledding - skiing- hunting- fishing- or any other outdoorsy thing you want, both have Schools of dance w/ performances, both have comedy club nights, both have bars and dining with all their own events going on- live music etc., both have shopping (although I will concede that marquette has vastly better options), both have all the local sports you want at varying levels, both have libraries with their own special events that go on, both have museums (although it would be nice if Houghton had a children's museum, but we have museums that marquette does not) and on and on...

now what special stuff does marquette have that Houghton doesn't??? nothing... besides the elitist attitude.

Re: 2019-20 NMU Hockey Season

Quick question - which of the two schools had more than 1000 under capacity for a rivalry game this year? And which had multiple games over capacity?

Michigan Tech @ Northern Michigan 03/06 - 3209 (Official capacity 3802)

Northern Michigan @ Michigan Tech 02/29 - 4053 (Official capacity 4466)

Michigan Tech @ Northern Michigan 02/28 - 4030 (Official capacity 3802)

Michigan Tech @ Northern Michigan 11/23 - 3945 (Official capacity 3802)

Northern Michigan @ Michigan Tech 11/22 - 3337 (Official capacity 4466)

Re: 2019-20 NMU Hockey Season

I also love how NMU is getting slammed for being such a ****ty fan base, while the two "State of Hockey" schools, which knew they were hosting first round series for weeks, each drew between 900-1400 fewer (MSU averages 4476 & had 3090 last night and BSU averages 2947 & had 2042) fans than usual.

Thank you for proving my point that Tech has a better fan base and travels much better than Northern fans.

Overall Attendance-Home Games-Overall Average:
MTU: 55,033-16-3127
NMU: 58,653-19-3087
(MTU averaged 40 more)

Attendance vs. Each Other-Games-Average vs. Each Other-Average increase:
MTU: 7390-2-3695-292
NMU: 11,184-3-3728-761
(NMU averaged 469 more)

Attendance vs Other Teams-Games-Average vs. Other Teams:
MTU: 47,643-14-3403
NMU: 47,469-16-2967
(MTU averaged 436 more)

By looking into total attendance statistics, rather than just the rivalry games, you can see Tech gets more fans and Norhern sees a bigger increase over their average for rivalry games.

Now we have numbers to back up the common belief that the Litter Box only fills up when Tech is in town.

Enjoy watching the Wildcats tonight. You won't get another chance until October.

Good question, maybe because neither team was hosting a rival from 100 miles away?
