Re: 2018-19 WCHA Season: 3 Bids And The Second Round?

Tech got pretty close to the second round last year...

Thanks for reminding me how close the Mavericks also were to winning in the first round. Day = Ruined

Has anyone signed up for Flosports yet, or tried the Roku channel for it? I'd like to get some input before I pay.

The new purple and gold jerseys are gonna change the tide. I can feel it. ;)
Nah, Tech tried the "new jerseys" thing last year and it didn't work. I think the only way you will get closer to the 2nd round and not actually win a game would be to actually score the game winning goal in OT only to have it called back by an NCHC officiating crew due to a skate lace in the crease or some other dumb reason. Then on the following face-off the opposing team clears the puck 180 ft down the ice towards your net and your goalie does his best Matt O'Conner impersonation and puts the puck into your own net.

Exorcising the Ghost of Brad McClure's Butt is going to take something really weird, that's for sure.

I will probably sign up next weekend to catch some of the games. I can provide some feedback then.

4-5 start in NC play. Need to get it over .500, but all things considered, it could be worse.

BG beating Western on Tuesday would help a lot, as would Tech beating UMD next weekend.

Re: 2018-19 WCHA Season: 3 Bids And The Second Round?

Thanks for the NC help for WCHA this weekend Lake State (2 wins) BG (1 win),and Alaska Anchorage a come from behind win in 3rd period tonight(sweet). Hopefully BG can get another win for the conference on Tuesday, bringing us to ,500

Hoping for better results from Alabama-Huntsville and Alaska next time.
4 out of a possible 9 wins over the weekend.

Two massive series on tap for the Mavericks. BU at home and UND on the road.

Nice weekend for LSSU and great bounce back by UAA!

Just my two cents but BU is the better of those two teams. Really fast and good movement of the puck.

.500 is a good benchmark, but I don't think it means too much in the grand scheme of PWR. For example, I'll pick on Alaska and Huntsville, since they both went 0-2 this weekend. If those 2 teams go winless in non-conference, and then end up 9 and 10 in the WCHA, those non-conference losses don't really hurt too much. Basically, its ok if bottom teams lose some, because it is likely they will lose most of their games against conference opponents too. It would definitely be better, and help the conference if they won some non-conference games, but if they're as bad as they may be (way too early to know), then it is likely that their games won't even count towards better teams PWR, since by PWR rules, a win cannot lower your PWR, and if it does, it does not count towards the PWR total. Also, this only works if the bottom 1 or maybe 2 teams suck out of conference. A conference can survive 1 boat anchor (NCHC recently with CC, or Old WCHA with Tech/UAA), but if you have the bottom 4 teams going winless in non-conference, then you start to have a problem, because that begins to make up a large % of the schedule of the top teams, so top teams don't have the opportunities for impact wins.

What we really don't want are the top teams, based on preseason, Mankato, BG, Tech and NMU to go out and lose non-conference, and they go finish at the top of the conference. That would hurt the conference as a whole.

Basically, ideally, all teams do well in non-conference, but it is more important for the top teams to do well.

They do also have a new head coach who has literally never been a head coach in his life, so it'll be interesting to see if there's any jitters there. Can't take much from an exhibition.
