I didn't think anyone was dumb enough to use the mini game format in playoff hockey anymore. Didn't they do away with that years ago on the men's side because it was such a stupid way of deciding the fates of two teams at the most critical time of the season?! It's much worse than a one game knockout because if the underdog gets lucky and scores the first goal of the mini game the higher ranked team has much less time to get a goal to tie it up compared to a full length game.
Plus I love how there's no notation at all of the mini game in the box score on collegehockeystats.net. Lol.
Well the "mini game" ended up practically being a full game. I was surprised last night at about 11 (IL time) I was looking and trying to figure out who won and saw that the game was still going. Lake Forest scored at about 15 minutes into the third period of the mini game. The box score for the original game was posted at like 9:30pm. Usually it says "Lake Forest won mini game 1-0" or something like that. I'm sure it was too late to update it. The men do a single elimination game, but the WIAC and The NCHA women still do the 2 and a mini game. I'm not sure what the reasoning is because it probably doesn't make them money. If they just did single elimination, Lake Forest would have advanced without losing the game, and Call It wouldn't have had anything to whine about.
