2017 Pairwise thread

Re: 2017 Pairwise thread

Because of the Penn State win, Union will be shipped out west with Lowell and BU staying east in Providence/Manchester.

Re: 2017 Pairwise thread

__Cincinnati
1 Denver
8 Union
9 Penn State
16 Michigan Tech

__Fargo
2 Minnesota-Duluth
7 Boston University
10 North Dakota
15 Ohio State

__Providence
3 Harvard
6 Western Michigan
11 Cornell
14 Providence

__ManchVegas
4 Minnesota
5 Mass.-Lowell
12 Air Force
13 Notre Dame

I think these look good. Union and BU are the only true east coast teams getting on a plane.

Re: 2017 Pairwise thread

There's a conflict in that Harvard PC bracket--Western and Sioux on the other side are same conference.

This is the DU to Manchester bracket I have based on bracket integrity.

Manch
1- DU
16- WCHA
8 - Union
9 - PSU

Fargo
2- UMD
15 - OSU
7-BU
10-UND

Prov
3- H
14- PC
6-WMU
11-Cornell

Cincy
4-MN
13-ND
5-UML
12-AF

I'd argue for moving BU and Cornell to Manchester, UML-AF to Providence, WMU-PSU to Cincy, Union-UND in Fargo. Saves flights and boosts attendance.

Manch
DU-WCHA
BU-Cornell

Fargo
UMD-OSU
Union-UND

Cincy
MN-ND
WMU-PSU

Prov
H-PC
UML-AF

Only 7 teams fly, only two (OSU/Union) of which fly when they could've been placed in a busable region.

Here are Wodon's
.
Fargo
1. Denver vs. 16. Michigan Tech
8. Union vs. 10. North Dakota

Cincinnati
2. Minnesota-Duluth vs. 15. Ohio State
6. WMU vs. 11. Air Force

Providence
3. Harvard vs. 13. Notre Dame
7. BU vs. 9. Penn State

Manchester
4. Minnesota vs. 14. Providence
5. Lowell vs. 12. Cornell

Re: 2017 Pairwise thread

10 flights paid for, they'd move teams around to reduce travel costs. Bracket I just posted has 7 and boosts attendance in Cincinnati.

He also has a problem with putting the Friars in Manchester. I doubt that will happen. I hope he's wrong. DU doesn't want Fargo.

mookie obviously wants bu in the east, but adam is being too cute x2. 3 should play 14 & 4 play 13. so just keep pc in providence and let the boston notre dame alums go to manchvegas. easy peasy.

A lot of wiggle room for the committee this year. I honestly don't know what they'll do. UND in Fargo and PC in Providence present a lot of hurdles for them. If you believe DU goes to Fargo, then Wodon's prediction (with variable PC/ND slot) makes sense. I tend to think UMD goes to Fargo because of the busability and because DU is the higher seed and flies anywhere they go and will go to Manchester, with either Union-PSU or BU-Cornell opposite them.

Re: 2017 Pairwise thread

Here's mine....Keeping attendance as good as possible:

Fargo: 1-Den v 16-MTU...8-Union v 10-NoDak
Cincy: 2-UMD v 15-OSU...6-WMU v 9-PSU (All the teams who can drive)
Prov: 3-Harv v 14-Prov...7-BU v 11-Cornell
Manch: 4-Minn v 13-NoDame...5-Lowell v 12-AFA (Swap the 2 eastern entire brackets if you want. Swap Prov for NoDame if you want.)

The main thing is that Cincy needs the closest teams possible, so you put the #1s in as required. Denver gets MTU, because there is a big fall from 15 to whatever MTU's PWR rank is. The 4s go either perfectly according to seeding, or you put Minnesota against Providence under the assumption that Harv v Prov isn't 'fair'.
The #2s go in according to seed, except that Cincy gets WMU. And, the 3s the same, except NoDak is host, and Cincy gets PSU.

Re: 2017 Pairwise thread

I'm going with Denver in Cincy. They're the #1 team and have to fly regardless, so I see them getting a relatively cushy western spot away from North Dakota rather than being sent to play against eastern teams in the east as the #1 overall, which would be way too much.

I have:

Cincinnati:
Denver vs Michigan Tech
Western Michigan vs. Penn State

Fargo:
Duluth vs Ohio State
Union vs. North Dakota

Manchester:
Minnesota vs Notre Dame
Lowell vs. Air Force

Providence:
Harvard vs. Providence
Boston vs. Cornell

I could see Denver getting Fargo in which case I'd have 1/16 and 2/15 swapped and everything else still the same.

Re: 2017 Pairwise thread

I don't see how Duluth doesn't go to Fargo.
DU is flying anyway. Duluth doesn't have to.

I also highly expect Providence to be in Providence. It happened just a couple years ago with much the same situation. And the attendance boost will be too hard to ignore.

Lowell will have to carry attendance in Manchester but everywhere else should be good. Denver goes to Fargo because it's the closest regional to them, and I do not believe "we don't wan to play NoDak in Fargo" is an excuse the committee would find as a valid reason to send them out further to Cincinnati.

As you can see above, mine is exactly the same as yours. I would give a slight chance to a NoDame/Prov swap, and also a slight chance to an AFA/Cornell swap so Cornell is in Manchester.

I've got the same exact bracket as you. My thought was Providence in Providence and Ohio State in Cincinnati. There are 3 eastern teams as 2 seeds so lowest rated Union goes west. With North Dakota in Fargo and Lowell in Manchester, attendance is as good as it can be at all four sites. Providence could be a tough ticket.
