2017 NCAA Women's Frozen Four

Re: 2017 NCAA Women's Frozen Four

We are trying to follow along as much as possible to stay up to date with the happenings in Women's College Hockey, we are currently in the process of looking into good news stories involving the top teams who have a chance of making it here to St. Charles for the Women's Frozen Four. If you all have any ideas, please let me know!
You're looking at having easily the deepest tournament field in history. Wisconsin is all alone at #1, but you could throw a blanket over, say, 2 through 7 or so.

Buckys5thQuarter.com has excellent Wisconsin coverage. I cover BC on BCInterruption.com. TheIceGarden.com is an excellent resource for coverage of the sport as a whole.

This article is pretty notable, about Wisconsin's record-setting game attendance against St. Cloud: http://www.buckys5thquarter.com/201...dgers-st-cloud-state-desbiens-clark-pankowski

Recap of BC's game at Fenway Park: http://www.bcinterruption.com/bosto...y-harvard-crimson-3-1-at-sloppy-frozen-fenway

Those are just examples, you'll see a ton of coverage on those three sites in particular.

I think it depends on how you define deepest. You're correct if it means the most teams that could get into the field and upset the No. 2 seed and nobody would be that surprised. But I don't think it is close to several seasons in terms of teams that could conceivably win it all. Both of the last two years had very good FF fields in terms of balance. Wisconsin is better than it was last year, but not by a huge margin. The big change is that most of the teams chasing the Badgers have gotten worse. UMD is a little bit better than it was, but it looks hugely improved because much of the top and middle of its league has eroded.

If you look back at a year like 2007, there were some road teams that were capable of knocking off quality hosts. I don't see this year as being much better, if it even is better, when looking at the top 8.

Re: 2017 NCAA Women's Frozen Four

I think the field is also deeper in terms of the number of teams that have a real shot at making a late season run and getting into the tournament.

Edited to add: TTT may also define "easily the deepest tournament field in history" as "Minnesota might not be in it."

I see six teams that could conceivably win the title. Throw a blanket over two through six. While Wisconsin is the clear far and away favorite, it's absolutely conceivable that someone can beat them. After that, anything can happen.

Yeah, I was going to say that if you guys want to skip the 'formality' of actually playing the games, and just ship the trophy to Madison... I'll be happy to get you that address.

Re: 2017 NCAA Women's Frozen Four

I think it depends on how you define.... Wisconsin is better than it was last year,

WI has better offense, but not quite as good defense as last year. IMO
Is that better? It could be against MN & BC, both of which lack the firepower of last year, so not being quite as strong defensively but having more offense is probably a good thing against those two.
Against the rest, I guess we'll see.

Re: 2017 NCAA Women's Frozen Four

Let's get some Women's Frozen Four talk going!! Who are your predictions for the four teams that will make it St. Charles?

If MN finishes 4th & gets to open at home:
WI -----........... ----- UMD
...........|-------|
MN -----........... ----- StL

If MN goes lower & ends up in Duluth opening weekend:
WI -----........... ----- BC
...... .....|-------|
UMD ----........... ----- StL

Outcome either way the Badgers bringing the hardware home.

Re: 2017 NCAA Women's Frozen Four

right now it would be:
Robert Morse to WI
MN going to UMD
Clarkson going to StL
and Cornell to BC

so WI vs. BC?

a MN team vs. upstate NY team?

WI vs. Clarkson/UMD/StL/MN in order of likelihood

Based on the letter of the selection criteria, it would actually be Clarkson @ BC and Cornell @ St. Lawrence. It's the exact same situation the committee had last year with NU and Princeton, though -- do they try and save a buck and send Clarkson to SLU to save a bit of gas money (i.e. the way you did it above)?

It's going to be a lot harder to justify that Cornell is better than Clarkson, though*, which is what their "justification" was last year.

*Well, other than the one H2H game so far

and pass up a 20 minute bus ride?

in some respects, I like the matchup I gave, two teams battle for the right to represent their conference against another conference, to earn the right to play WI

throw Cornell against BC, who cares, cannon fodder and a warmup for WI to face the survivor of the above

20 minutes? Yikes you drive slow! :)

Plus CCT v SLU saves on NCAA hotel bills.

Re: 2017 NCAA Women's Frozen Four

Women's Frozen Four to be televised on the Big Ten Network.
Only 4 Big Ten teams in the NCAA, but better than the last few years, I think. Do they show the game if it is Clarkson vs BC?

People still should go in person :)

(Are the Gophers going to be in the Frozen Four this year?)

Do they commit to televising if the b6 sucks and hockey east / ecac is totally dominate.

Do you see Minnesota and Wisconsin "sucking" anytime soon to even ask this question? Referring to the "B6" from the WCH perspective is confusing since only 4 participate
