We only have footage of him in his later dissipated years. He was apparently a great base runner, though I didn't know he was an accomplished base stealer.

He was thrown out trying to steal second to end a World Series. IIRC Grover Cleveland Alexander talks about it in "My Greatest Day in Baseball."

This may only interest Red Sox fans and those who watch the Sox on NESN, but it was announced today that color analyst Jerry Remy has a relapse of lung cancer.

If they put Steve Lyons in as a full time replacement, double Frak.

4 umpires have retired this offseason: Jim Joyce (Mr Ruined Perfect Game), John Hirschbeck, Tim Welke, and Bob Davidson.

I'm glad to see Davidson gone. He was atrocious. If we can get rid of Angel Hernandez and Fat Joe West in the next few years, we'll be far better off.

I have no issues with Joyce or how he handled the game. He admitted after that he royally f__ked up.

Hernandez and West can get hit by a bus

Exactly. And yet they've still done nothing about limiting visits to the mound or putting a time limit on replay.

Or batters stepping out after every pitch. The single biggest waster of time. There's a reason games against the Red Sox or Yankees take 43 hours to complete.

Or relief pitchers warming up in the bullpen for 20 minutes and then throwing 10 more "warmup" pitches when they enter the game.

This. Don't give relievers warm up on the mound unless there's an injury, and force all pitchers to face a minimum of two batters.

Got two SRO tickets to opening day at Wrigley when they went on sale this morning. Now need to decide if I use the secondary market to upgrade or not...

You could be financially be set for life by selling them on the secondary market.

I don't like the minimum requirement, though, if they want to run out of pitchers let them. I don't see that taking up as much time as the other crap people mentioned. (Though I suppose I could be wrong.)

I think the LOOGY is the worst **** to happen to baseball since the DH. 2 PA minimum would shut that down, plus it would change the whole way innings are planned and even lineups are drawn up.
