2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

sadly, the Brewers are now done with the Phillies this season. At least they beat the few teams they're "supposed" to beat.

I'm not sure .500 is realistic this year, but it'd be nice to get out of the cellar.

edit: and hopefully I didn't just jinx them with Miami coming to town. :p

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

I realize a high draft pick in the MLB is nothing like a high draft pick in the NBA but I'd rather see this team do awful and get a higher pick (and hope the new regime is better at drafting pitchers).

Hopefully they can get a Fielder or clean Braun out of the top 5 pick they should be getting next summer. Looking at the very early 2016 draft projections, most of the top 10 is pitchers...so who knows.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

I've looked at all their drafts since 2005 and of the earlier picks the only guys I recognize are Lucroy, Braun and some of the mediocre pitching staff we've assembled. Then you see guys like Khris Davis who have probably defied expectations, and that's basically it. I realize the MLB draft is more of a crap shoot than other sports but man, I feel like that's probably the first place I'd look when trying to figure out where Melvin went wrong.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

Braun is your new Brewers' career HR leader as of today, passing Yount with his 252nd today. Davis had 2 more HR's, including one of of Chris Narveson. Who knew that guy was still around? Krod with another save. Too bad we couldn't have given him more opportunities this year.

... Davis had 2 more HR's ...
Brewers need to lock this kid up long term. Immediately.

... Which probably means that the kid is doping and will get caught once he becomes a known name in the community. Ugh. ;)

why can't he play first base?

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

He's a good not great player with three years of arbitration left. It's not like you really need to offer the guy a long term contract or anything.

This appears to be one of the world's great mysteries (right up there with how Blazek broke his hand). Maybe they tried it and he was worse than Juan Francisco, and NOBODY wants that.

Domingo Santana (#4 on the prospect list) is coming up for Cravy, who went on the DL right after his extremely ****ty start.

and... Santana is starting in center tonight.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

Good thing Cincinnati is coming to town. How many times did they have the tying run at the plate last night? Brutal.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

Mariners fired Jack Z.

I'm just saying. I don't know their circumstances, or his job performance there, I just know the Brewers are looking for a new GM.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

Zach Davies is starting for the Brewers tomorrow.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

Ariel Pena called up. You may remember him from such trades as Zack Greinke to Anaheim for Johnny Hellweg and Jean Segura.

p.s. my adoration for Jean Segura was cemented even more last night. Bunch of great plays from him. Haudricourt mentioned last week that when Arcia is ready to come up, Segura could move to second. Definitely approve. Just have to get some more consistency at the plate. As the only Rickie Weeks fan, I was never hot on Gennett, so it'd be fine with me to see him go.

Matt Garza should perhaps realize that when you do your job poorly, over and over, you lose your bargaining power and the ability to complain. Oh and also, if you want to spend time with your pregnant wife and family - then retire. Until then, you have a boss and you're part of a team, so shut up and do your job.
