2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

3B is a premium position and I'm not sure there are better options that can be acquired for cheap. That and the Mets aren't a poor team who can't afford it. No idea what we can get back for him but at this point there's no point in hanging onto him.

I don't think Segura being traded is impossible by any means I just don't really see the rationale from the Brewers perspective unless someone is willing to overpay.

Not a pretty game, but I'll take it. The picture on jsonline of Scooter Gennett's gum shower is fantastic.

btw, for those who visit the ballpark - the Double Clutch is back, and it's called "Series Specials" now - section 223. So relieved. I'm betting I'm not the only one who missed it.

matchups for the rest of the series:

Tonight - Fiers vs. Zimmermann
Sat - Nelson vs. Ross
Sun - Jungmann vs,. Scherzer

Hey, the Brewers get to be embarrassed on national TV tonight by the Royals (and themselves), instead of just regional!

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

Eric Karros said something about trading Lucroy and/or Gomez last night.

They do need a rehaul, but I don't think they will trade Lucroy. It's so hard to find a quality catcher, and unless they're getting Clayton Kershaw for him, I don't think he's going anywhere. As much as anyone can be untouchable, I think Lucroy is. Gomez is a lot more expendable.

Someone would love to get Broxton for their stretch run, right? Right?????

And I don't think last's night's loss is even a moral victory. BA said something in the 9th about the Royals leaving the door open. Oh Brian. You should know better. They had the bases loaded in the 8th with one out, and the door wasn't even open then. The door is locked. :p

Problem is Lucroy and Gomez are the only ones that play premium positions, have multiple years on their contracts, and are the only ones that would return a good haul. I agree that Lucroy is super valuable and you would create a hole filled by one of the best/undervalued players in their respective position. But at the same time I'm not sure what else you can do as this team projects to be bad for a while and keeping an elite catcher and CF isn't going to be enough to change that. Problem with Lucroy is that he's undervalued and that means you might not get fair value for the guy unfortunately. Gomez on the other hand should bring back something nice.

As for Broxton you'd be selling low right now since he's been giving up a ton of dingers and has been quite bad but he should start regressing in the right direction eventually.

Not sure if you read disciples of Uecker but this article lays it out pretty well and they relay some of what I said (found this article after I wrote my post). http://disciplesofuecker.com/smartbuilding-3-trading-lucroy-gomez/22926

I was playing the game OOTP 15, and Milwaukee won the 2015 World Series. So they don't stink everywhere.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

You know what helps a losing streak? Playing other ****ty teams.

Still this.

KD starts a 5 game rehab stint. Hopefully back soon, although Parra and Peterson have not been terrible fill-ins.

Happy Deadline Season!

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

They should pay people to watch this series. It's exactly what I would expect from the two worst teams in baseball. Painful.

I can't believe they won that game.

But - the Brewers were .500 in June!!!! .500!!!! Incredible. Their first .500 month since LAST June.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

I... uh... take full blame for being the winning streak killer. I was at last night's game with my wife. :o

(And I may be going again tonight depending on ticket availability on StubHub...)

you went, didn't you? :p

surprising fact of the day, via Joe Block - the Brewers lead the NL Central in runs scored.

unsurprising fact of the day - the Brewers also lead the NL Central in runs given up. :p

I am looking forward to what I assume will be some very creative language in the midseason grades in the newspaper. How many different ways can one say "bad"?

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

Carlos Gomez for Zack Wheeler and Wilmer Flores is practically official. And the purge begins.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

If Wheeler comes back strong from TJ you've got a great starter still under control for 4 years. This trade may turn out to be a steal for Milwaukee.

Flores is a solid bat who won't take a walk to save his life. He's a cromulent shortstop; I have no idea where you intend to play him.

Barring other trades, I'd expect Flores to play mostly third right now. He won't be a shortstop as long as Orlando Arcia is still the Second Coming. Not sure what this all means for Jean Segura. That's a lot of shortstops.

I like the sound of a rotation including a healthy Wheeler, Fiers, Nelson, Peralta and/or Jungmann in a couple years.
