2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Non-Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Re: 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Non-Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Is that pretty abnormal to have it form and then make landfall so soon?

Dam badger-loving deer-diddler!

Wait, that's a different gurt.

Harvey really got his act together overnight. Now slated to be a Cat 2-3 with a bullseye around Corpus Christi.

Forecast to stall on the coast for several days, just dumping rain on the entire Texas coast. I've seen anywhere from 15-30" of rain predicted for the Houston/Galveston/Freeport areas, which is directly where I am.

Luckily, my tugboat can float, has our own power supply, and likely can't get damaged by anything that will come my way.

This could be a historic storm, folks.

Allison 2: Electric Boogaloo?

Re: 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Non-Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Was BS'ing with my Capt this am wondering if it might also experience some Brown Ocean Effect, like Allison did.

Essentially it maintains or even strengthens over land, drawing moisture from the soil, believe it or not.

Erin in 07 or 08 also did this.

How can that happen? Is it because heavy rains have already saturated the ground?

Harvey is looking pretty nasty as-is. If the track holds, and there's any sort of deepening in the next 24-36 hours, he could wipe a pretty good chunk of Corpus Christi off the map.

This afternoon was pretty incredible with the sudden change in outlook and strength.

I've got a gut feeling that this may have some similarities to Katrina before things are all over. The rainfall alone is going to be mind boggling, let alone the additional widespread surge.

My Capt and I feel we have a decent plan in place to ride this thing out. I've said since I started that I wanted to ride a storm out on the boat, well... I'm getting my wish.

Let the conference calls begin. Only taken out a few flights to HRL so far, and have been advised to keep alternates north, east, and not AUS.

Up to 110 MPH max sustained per the latest complete summary. Storm surge at high tide now forecast at 6-12 ft in the center of the expected landfall zone, and that won't include the rainfall.
