My choices to replace Motzko are as follows
1a. Mike Hastings - He has proven to be a pretty good coach and he is an alum. He has made it clear that he wants to be in the NCHC. He would have to really want the job, as he has a pretty good contract and we wouldn't be able to pay him much more than he is already making. I would put my confidence level of him leaving Mankato at 30%.
1b. Mike Gibbons - Keeping Gibbons and Raboin would be an attractive option to me, as this is probably the coaching hire most likely to keep the players here that are on the fence about returning. We should have just as good a chance next year to win a title as we did this year, if not better, escpecially if we can keep Eyssimont, Schuldt or both. Gibbons is a fantastic recruiter, and I believe he has earned a shot to be the head coach of a team. I don't know what Rabz aspirations are, if he would stay on as an assistant or not. He probably isn't ready to be a coach in the NCHC yet, but could be a few years down the line.
Mike Guentzel and Grant Potulny would be ok options, but I wouldn't want to hire a guy that would just leave when the Gophers job opens up.
I am seeing people throw out Parrish and Cullen and I think they should put the crack pipe down. Neither guy needs the money. Parrish couldn't even tolerate coaching a high school team, so I don't see him having the dedication to coach college hockey. Cullen's NHL career isn't even over yet, he has no coaching experience, and I don't think he even graduated from SCSU. We are hiring a coach, not a team mascot.
Gwoz wouldn't be a terrible hire. Not sure he has the recruiting connections anymore but you aren't going to find anyone with a better resume.
