2017-18 DIII News, Game Notes, Etc

Re: 2017-18 DIII News, Game Notes, Etc

Some nice matchups on tap this weekend.

Middlebury/Conn. College play 2.

St. Thomas and Augsburg in a home and home series. We'll see if the Auggies are for real this year with that 6-1 start.

Gustavus Adolphus/River Falls play next Wednesday in a big one.

You appear to have overlooked an item on the schedule Prez. Will you be in Orr for the Cadet visit on 12/6? That could be a big one.

Re: 2017-18 DIII News, Game Notes, Etc

Both Plattsburgh and Adrian taking the frustrations of their low-scoring Thanksgiving weekends by drubbing alphabetically-adjacent conference opponents tonight. Adrian has a 10-1 win over Aurora and the Cards have a 5-0 lead on Potsdam.

Bowdoin beat UMB earlier today 2-1 in non-conference action. Amherst and Trinity are scoreless heading into the 2nd period.

Edit: Plattsburgh finishes off with 3 goals in the third to finish off 8-0 over Potsdam. Freshman Annie Katonka with the hat trick. Melissa Sheeran and Mackenzie Millen add 2 each and Courtney Moriarty also had 1. Kassi Abbott with her 3rd straight shutout. Rematch tomorrow in Potsdam.

In other action, Amherst is up 3-2 on Trinity late in the 2nd. UWRF and UW-Superior are tied at 1 in the 2nd and St. Thomas leads Augsburg 1-0 after 1.

I'd be surprised if any team in this pathetic conference scores a goal against Plattsburgh, let alone beat them!

Pathetic about sums it up. Their Conf stats shouldn't count.

You have to remember, Plattsburgh didn't leave the league they were in....the league left them and left only SUNY teams behind ! Not their choice.....and their stats shouldn't count ???? Not the most intelligent statement ever made here.

So whatever happened to Salve being a good team?! They suck now. Looking at their history there seems to be a direct correlation between changing coaches a few years ago and their quick downward spiral. Did the former coach quit or was he fired? The new coach clearly isn't doing well at all.

obviously I was (half) kidding....the point is some of these new cons are pathetic.

Cox was a very good coach and tried to recruit girls with +/- nescac talent w/o the grades. now? not so much

Now the coach wants her daughter on the team....

Oh my, that's never a good thing. So did she have to kill the program so her daughter would be able to fit in skill-wise?! Why did Cox leave, or was he fired? He's probably not very happy seeing someone come in and ruin what he worked so hard to build into a good program.

McCann has been there since the 13-14 season which happened to be the first year her older daughter showed up on the roster as a senior. Then in 16-17 her younger daughter shows up on the roster as a freshman....

Perhaps there’s a potential conflict of interest?

No. Look at Harvard men.

LMAO, ya that's a perfect comparison. Hahahaha.

It looks like her first year was actually 14-15. Her oldest daughter was a senior goalie among 4 goalies that year and she didn't play a single minute according to collegehockeystats. The younger daughter has 8 points in 39 games so far in her college career so at least she's contributing somewhat. Ryan Donato at Harvard is leading the team in points so far this year and has 76 points in 78 career games for the Crimson. It's apples and oranges to compare the two situations that's for sure!

Good day for the NESCAC so far. Trinity holding Plattsburgh scoreless after 2. Midd up 4-0 on Castleton. Connecticut College up on Manhattanville 2-1. after 2. Bowdoin defeated JWU 4-0 in earlier action.

EDIT: Songin with the wrap-around PPG makes it 1-0 Cards midway through the 3rd.

Unranked Amherst took down #2/2 Elmira on the road. This coupled with Plattsburgh's wins since the loss to Elmira probably sees the Cards back at #2 come Monday afternoon.

#6/8 GAC also took down #5/5 River Falls twice this week: at home this past Wednesday and on the road today. They will probably go up one or two spots. Could end up jumping Elmira, especially if Amherst beats them again on Sunday.

It will probably be a toss up for #2 if Elmira wins today. Wouldn’t surprise me if either is there with a win. Amherst win, then agree completely that Plattsburgh will be 2. A tie likely same result.

Amherst v Elmira

In only my 2nd women's game in 45 years of hockey ....

After Elmira opened the scoring, Amherst seemed to kick it into a higher gear. Played much quicker than Elmira for the remainder, and back-checked extremely well. Elmira may have been suffering from the curse of playing much weaker competition in conference.

Elmira's A-line (like their male counterparts) is quite a talented group.
