2017-18 DIII Commitments

Re: 2017-18 DIII Commitments

That said, I also can't see someone leaving for another school 3 years in without that person thinking they're a heavy favorite to be the starter, whether that's by assurance from the coach or just confidence in her own ability to earn it outright.

Unless she lost her scholarship for some reason...... don't know anything about what happened at St. L with Wolejko other than the fact that she struggled briefly and got replaced by a better performer. Now St. L has two younger goalies on the roster (and likely a 3rd coming in). Quite possible that they came up with a reason for a scholarship reduction or elimination. Alternatively, she may just have decided that she wants to play rather than sit her senior season, even though she has to transfer and move down to D3.

Seems to be a bit of a trend here recently around Assabet Valley former goalies. Landry was a teammate of Wolejko who went to Brown and struggled and doesn't play much anymore and really ended up being a D3 level goalie (even though she is still at Brown). St. Denis is younger and spent a year at Mercyhurst and was a sought after recruit, but only played one game, got shellacked, and transferred to Bowdoin where she did very well. And now Wolejko moves to Plattsburgh. I don't think its a given she'll be the starter over Abbott, but it is probably likely - and she'll probably do well.

Brown is basically a D3 program still, so....just sayin'. ;)

It's really because many D1 HCs do not know how to recruit well. They often look at the team name first and player 2nd. Hey she's from Assabet or Team IL, or Pens Elite.

agree...90% of all coaches wouldn't know a good goalie from a pastrami sandwich.

Re: 2017-18 DIII Commitments

The woman's hockey program basically opens up this weekend with the Beantown Tournament. Hopefully we will be reading about a lot more commitments within the next few weeks. Help me out here, as far as scouting goes which are the big tournaments for the girls? Beantown, NAHA, Stoney Creek?

Re: 2017-18 DIII Commitments

I think NAHA and Stoney Creek are a little late for this year and too early for next year (for DIII). Beantown should be the place where loose ends get tied up. Having said that I know my D's school has their commits for this upcoming year, they just tend to be late on announcements....
