2016 World Junior Championship

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

Some have said the US didn't bring their best eligible players. Who would be an improvement and who would they replace?

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

Russia's on 5 points after 2 games; they're not sleepwalking.

This year, maybe this year the sleepwalker is Finland or Slovakia? Looking at the bracket, wouldn't you rather finish 2nd? Then you'd guarantee not playing Sweden or Canada til a medal is on the line? Might result in you having to play 1B...but idk. Hard to say overall that where they finish is that important...What I really like is the early adversity for the team. That can really help propel a team in this tournament. Starting against Canada and Sweden really sets the bar high for this team on knowing what they need to do.

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

I'd tend to agree. The #1 seed probably means a little more in the other group, as you get your first game against likely Denmark who will be a cut below the rest of the field. But for group A, the #1 seed is still going to have to play a pretty good Slovakian or Finnish or Czech team.

I'd have loved to see the U.S. win today, but...what can you say? They played a really good game and the better team didn't win. Sometimes that happens in hockey. When you look at the few posts hit and couple of outstanding saves by the Swedish netminder, it's hard to be too critical of the team.

My only complaint, really, was how the U.S. struggled to establish any net-front presence. Soderstrom made all the first saves, but there were a number of rebound opportunities that the U.S. only managed to snip and poke at. The Swedish defense prevented the U.S. from holding any sort of presence and limited them to just sort of flashing across the front of the net.

Garland should be on first line with Milano and Matthews

Is it about winning or promoting for draft?

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

It's always about the NTDP ... and BC could have used Colin White yesterday in Florida

Don't look now but the Swiss are up 2-0 right now on Canada after 1!

Swiss playing pretty well and getting a couple nice bounces.

EDIT: as I'm typing this Canada gets a goal from a terrible angle to cut it to 2-1 in final minute of 1st.

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

tie game...

Canada with a 5x3 PP for 35 seconds with 3:51 left in 2nd, tied at 2

Are you kidding? you want a 5'7 163 lb kid to take Boesers spot? Brock Boeser is probably the best freshman in college hockey and one of the best on the junior team. Garland is good but small and didn't fit the team And what scoring problem are you talking about they just put 4 up on Canada? This team is all around great and have a really good chance of getting another gold. I'd say they have exactly who they want and need to win.

2-2 after two.

Shots dead even as well. Swiss giving Canada all they can handle and more right now.

Even if they can hold on for the draw, huge help to the US.

DeBrincat is listed at 5'7 and he made the team. Calling him 5'7 is pushing it!

Ya he is and I'm not trying to say that there isn't smaller but size like that hurts kids chances to make teams like this. The coaches know who all these kids are and how they play. To say they are just picking kids to boost their draft positions is ********. Seriously you think Chris Chelios would pick a kid if it hurt their chances of winning?
