2016 WCHA Offseason; It's All Over, Save Ferris

It may not work for that very reason. Just because there will be more opportunities for teams to play WCHA opponents doesn't mean that it will happen. I don't have numbers on me as to how many non-Ivy teams come close to 34 (without playing in one of the Alaska tournaments).

Especially given that the Bi6 is almost certainly going to add conference games when the add teams, non-conference games will be hard to find, and home ones will be rare indeed.

I'd put the qualifier of "with quality teams", although that's a slight to the Eastern schools willing to do 1-for-1.

It is my opinion that the B1G 10 is nothing more than an attempt at a money grab for the Big 10 conference and the Big 10 network. If it was up to them, they would never play any of the smaller schools... regardless of how good they are. I really hope that the season opening series between Wisconsin and NMU, that rotates between Madison and Green Bay, sticks. It is well attended and always a good series. However, as the Big 10 gets bigger... just as was mentioned above... I worry it will go away.

There are 3 more series scheduled between NMU & Wisconsin. Two are in Green Bay and one in Madison.

I also hope the event continues. It seems like it's been a beneficial agreement for both teams. NMU gets a good portion of income from the GB games, the Alumni Association uses the weekend as outreach for the region, and it's not *that* far for NMU fans to travel to for the weekend (making for a nice vacation weekend). For Wisconsin, it's a short road trip, obvious badger fan base in place, not much effort needed on their part (insert joke here about their level of effort for the last few years). I just don't know how much of this agreement was driven by Walt Kyle and Mike Eaves. With Eaves gone, Barry Alvarez may want to refocus the Badgers efforts once this agreement expires.

This sounds about right.

It helps keep UW hockey on the radar in the GB area so I think that it will depend on what the new coach wants to do in terms on competition. The other issue will be if the B1G moves to 8 teams and 28 conference games. With only 6 NC games for UW, it will be difficult for UW to maintain all the regular NC games with Hockey East teams, UND and CC/DU and maintain the NMU Green Bay games. UMN is in a similar spot with playing the other MN teams. As long as BiG stays at 24 games I think that both schools should be able to maintains those scheduling agreements going forward provided that both teams want to.

Eisler's doctorate degree is in clarinet performance. I saw him play in student bands all the time when I lived in Big Rapids.

Ferris ended Tech's season, but I'm happy they are turning it on like this. Way to go Bulldogs!
