2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

Only one musical chair left for 2024.

LA and Paris will now scramble to be the last city to withdraw, thus sticking the other one with the grotesque bill.

Pity, Budapest was a pretty neat place back when I was there in 2001. But yeah, last I knew they didn't have that much in the travel infrastructure there. a lot of street trams and 3 different lines for their subway system. Fun place, but yeah, I could see the natives balking at the olympics price tag.

I've heard it's started to get a substantial tourism influx in the last 5 years, but is still nowhere near as bad on crowds and rising prices as, say, Prague. The Olympics hype would very quickly change that in a big way. Too much too soon, and at too great of a cost for the citizens, I would think.

I could see that. They did seem to have a pretty good buzz about their push to get into the Euro Union. at the hostel I stayed at there there was a group of guys from the UK there having a good time and it was a hell of a lot cheaper for a couple of nights of drinking there than what it was back in the UK. That and the amount of Blond hotties running around the place.

Hoping this happens, because then the bill might not be so grotesque. The host city will be in an equal bargaining position with the Olympic Committee. "No, we're not going to build a new velodrome. If you want a new velodrome, enjoy Pyonyang."

You would hope, but the bills aren't crazy because of competition between bidders. They are crazy because the large expenses are used to launder the bribery and the corruption. The IOC and the cities are not negotiating against each other. They are colluding against the taxpayers of the "winning" location. It's analagous to the relationship between Congress and business. The driver isn't cost control, it's maximum graft.

Forget her name, but the women's marathon gold medal winner tested positive for EPO and has been stripped of the gold, plus faces a lengthy suspension.

I often wonder why it takes this long to catch the cheaters, with all the sophisticated testing they do during and after events nowadays. Is it like so-called "designer" drugs, where some shady chemists just tweak the formula / molecular structure of a banned PED, and suddenly it doesn't show up on tests anymore until the governing bodies catch on, and update the tests?

I've wondered the same thing. And in the big cases as of late, the cheaters have come from Africa. Remember, Rita Jeptoo was caught, and had to forfeit her Chicago Marathon win, as well as a shot at the Big Paycheck that comes with winning the World Marathon Majors.

There are athletes, such as America's Shalane Flanagan, that are pushing for more comprehensive testing, so we can catch the frauds right away.
