2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

I am torn when the Olympic qualifying comes on. We have a former UMaine runner going today and has a swimmer last week. Of course I want then to succeed and follow their dreams, but when Katie missed out I tweeted a reporter at the event that "She's the real winner since she doesn't have to go to Rio"

Some more pole vault qualifying would be ok

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

There's a girl that appeared in the gymnastics qualifiers who looks to be about 11 years old. Her floor routine was even set to The Addam's Family theme song.

The one with the insane vault was amazing. It seemed about half again as high as any I'd ever seen.

NBC announces they're tape delaying the opening ceremonies one hour to allow for "curation" of the event. That apparently is modern speak for censor.

Everyone else globally gets to watch the ceremonies live. So for those of you living near a CBC feed, have fun telling your friends what happens before they see it.

I plan to stream the events from British TV anyway. The events will be live, there will be limited jingoistic announcers and much fewer special features on the participants. Foreign sources actually cover the sporting events. Imagine that.

Do you VPN BBC??

There are multiple sites to stream international broadcasts. I use http://cricfree.sx/sports-live-streaming-1

I stream on my PC and cast it via Google to my TV in my bedroom or the living room. Even on the big screens I get quality definition (HD or just below). If I watch on my PC screen it's always in HD. I get Sky News on my Roku and am hopeful that one day soon the Sports side and the BBC will make apps for the device.

US coverage of the Olympics is about as subtle as a Nuremberg Rally. I'm glad to hear there is a way of escaping it. The networks are pure jingoistic sh-t. I don't think they've caught on that the Olympic audience is the NPR set, not Bubba.

Who filmed the1936 Olympics? Leni Riefenstahl. My favorite propagandist. Imagine if she worked for NBC now!

Triumph of the Will is one of the most disappointing films I've ever seen. Only Birth of a Nation and Nanook of the North are more boring.

And I like art films.

CWO?

2001 is brilliant.

Edit: Oh! No, CWO is also brilliant. You are a very silly person.

A Clockwork Orange is perhaps the most disturbing and yet enthralling movies I've ever seen.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

They were ****ing awful. I remember being upset that I had wasted my time with them.

They were more pointless than Michael Bay meets George Lucas circa 2001. Odd.

I just hated these movies.

My vote. A great movie (of a great production), but a VERY hard watch.

Another one. Only movie I've ever walked out on because I was getting too involved and couldn't deal.

2001 is a film you have to watch multiple times to understand what the funk is going on. 50 years later, there are STILL debates on IMDB about what that film means.

CWO goes back and forth between being exquisite social satire to cartoonish waste of film. In the end I think it holds up well, but it isn't the masterpiece some people think it is.
