2016 MN Boys Hockey Tourney- Let the Good Locks Flow

USA Hockey HS Nationals start tomorrow. I'm doing score/time for the Wayzata game tomorrow morning. To help the PA announcer, it's
Why ZET ah, not Why ZAT ah, right?

Clown's got it right. I noticed that Edina plays about the same time at a different rink. I guess they can't cheer for each other. ;-)

I'll be wearing my Bemidji Beavers hat. I just got roped into the PA for the game, too. Too bad I can't impersonate the guy from the X who does the Class A announcing. He has such a distinctive voice. But, USAH has a strict protocol for game announcing.

If there are any flows, I'll let you know.

If you work any of the Edina games, let me know. I can give you insight on a number of these kids and their families. Just some fun facts you could throw out and surprise them that you knew about them. Everything from one kid's uncle being a famous TV actor to a big burly defenseman who cried when he got pulled from a Pre-K soccer game.;)

So both MN teams won their first games today, Wayzata 3-2 and Edina 3-1. Both had somewhat of a shots edge as well.

Don't know if I'll pick up Edina. But I was surprised at 2 things.
(1) Edina's unis did not look like the school's. Just a big Olde English E on the front of the sweater.
(2) And more importantly, the complete lack of flows. NOBODY from Minnesota had anything resembling a flow.

Wayzata was fun. they nearly shot themselves in the foot clinging to a 1 goal lead and going 2 men down in the final minutes of the 3rd.

Oh - and we have a 'Tonka ref. I was sorely tempted to call him Skipper.

Wayzata loses 3-2 with 2 PP goals given up on 9 PPs, better stay out of the box boys. Edina wins 5-1 with Joe Dronen getting 2g, 1a, Joe is one of the nicest kids ever, love to see him have success.

His dad isn't about 38/39 years old and named James, is he?

Growing up we would say our names and team names in his voice the best we could.:p

Chatted with the Edina kids today and read them this post. Met the player who had the famous uncle and nobody owned up to the other one. :).

So I am keeping score and we go to a shootout. Lindborg has to hit a shot to keep Edina alive. DING! My brain clicks and I remark that I was sure that he played for the varsity last season. Yep! The penalty box guy confirmed it. Ok, I must be a HS hockey geek.

BTW, they are great kids and their staff people are good folks, too.

Edina and Wayzata both made the QF. Unfortunately, I am working the coop side of the knockout rounds and won't see their games.

There was talk around the rink that Minnesota is thinking about hosting tbe 2018 HS Nationals. Don't ask me where, because I have no idea.

Nope, Hondo (Lindborg's nickname) never made varsity in hockey. He is varsity lacrosse though. One of the coaches you can call Barn-dog, his kid is Barnsy. J.R. has an older brother on Notre Dame, both kids are terrific fishermen. Their dad played D 4 years at Michigan. It was Foley who cried back at pre-k soccer.

Wayzata v Edina for the USA Hockey title tomorrow morning at 10am (ET). Both won in OT. Edina 1-0 over Brookings and Wayzata over Winston Churchill (Potomac, MD) 6-5.

Given the history between these two teams, we're looking at a looooonnnnggggg game.

Over/under on OTs at 6 right now.:D

Re: 2016 MN Boys Hockey Tourney- Let the Good Locks Flow

Under. Oare with 1:47 left in OT #1 (15:13 elapsed). Wayzata 2 Edina 1. Oare tied it @ 16:50 of the 3rd.

Where does the "national" part of this tournament begin and end because this looks like just another Minnesota State High School League game.

;) :p
