2016 Mariucci Classic - Minnesota Mercyhurst UAH UMass

Gopher Hockey
The 26th annual Mariucci Classic kicks off this Friday December 30th with UAH playing UMass at 4pm central time. Minnesota and Mercyhurst drop the puck at 7pm. The Minnesota game will be on FSN Plus.

Losers play Saturday at 4pm and the winners play at 7pm.

The Gophers will be without D Ryan Lindgren, who is playing at the WJC with team USA.

Looking forward to seeing some teams we don't play very often. Hope the Gophers are on their game after ~3 weeks off.

The losers can also play at 7 pm Saturday night. Minnesota will alway been in the night game of the Classic. So if they lose on Friday, they play at night no matter what on Saturday. We all know Minnesota won't lose on Friday night.

Odds are good on the W as they are not playing an in state team. :)

Finally we get some hockey back! Although I don't like they have another bye right after this weekend instead of having it somewhere a bit later.

I will be extremely disappointed if the Gophers do not win this tournament. They absolutely need to win both games, no excuses!

Way to set yourself up. ;)

That said I fully expect them to come out and play two solid games instead of another half-*** weekend of hot and cold. If they do that manage 1 loss I can live with it. Just give us 50+ (somewhat of an arbitrary baseline I realize) every game with Schierhorn playing more composed results should follow for the rest of the season.

Honestly given the quality of the opposition (perhaps the weakest ever in the history of the tournament?) I stand by my original assertion: "I will be extremely disappointed if the Gophers do not win this tournament."

No excuses!

Well, Northern Michigan is in Florida right now. ;)

Obviously we're no draw at the gate, but I'm thankful we're invited.

A little bit about the Chargers: Goaltender Jordan Uhelski has gone from our No. 3 to our No. 1 and has played pretty well as of late. We've been getting some goals from the blue line with Kurt Gosselin (who got UAH's first hat trick in eight years) and Brandon Parker. Josh Kestner (Huntsville native) has risen to be our points leader, and Max McHugh has been our most dangerous offensive threat in a decade.

Alabama-Huntsville, please. :) We try not to associate ourselves with the rednecks to our southwest.

Is there going to be any way to get video of our matchup with UMass? I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll do well given that we play well on the road (and crap at home).

Heck, I'll be disappointed if they win. There is nothing "classic" about this.
