Re: 2016/2016 Lowell Thread: Hoping for Chicago

With a couple of new arenas you might be right... either way Merrimack has always been posted as regulation but it's always felt tiny because it's a glorified garage

I know in my time there were a couple that were a few feet short of regulation but nothing like the old days of 185x85.

Edit: I didn't realize the school could finesse the zones... clearly you wouldn't do it regularly but I never thought about it

Yeah it definitely always felt small. It also felt like the glass was a just a bit lower? Either way its definitely unique.

To your edit I had wondered the same, also gave some thought to if any teams ever toyed with the depth of the corners to create a more open/closed feel.

Congrats to Joe Gambardella on 100 career points. Hope they did something at the game to honor the accomplishment

"Its the smallest rink in the conference... its not the same size, I guarantee it." ~Norm

It definitely feels smaller, but I thought no ice sheet is smaller than NHL size in college?
The ceiling is so low it feels tiny

mr les thinks there is no way it is NHL size.

They announced it when they announced Smith's goal.
His folks were in town. Cool they got to see it.

Re: 2016/2016 Lowell Thread: Hoping for Chicago

Desperately needed win last night. Really good crowd considering everything as well. Great to see Joey get to 100 at a home game. Pretty sure we'll miss CJ's 100th, that'll most likely be on the road.

Overall, lackluster game at times, which seems to happen with MC. Wall played well overall. Good push in the first and third periods, but wow, were we sleeping in the second.

Tough loss for Merrimack on the other hand, losing their Captain and their starting netminder to injury. Hope neither are serious.

The new third jerseys are fantastic and a vast improvement upon the uninspiring, unimaginative gray ones that hopefully will be destroyed in a bonfire. They were swamped last night with people pre-ordering them.

Let's get the sweep tonight and send the kids to break with a smile on their faces. Go Hawks!

Re: 2016/2016 Lowell Thread: Hoping for Chicago

Great win at Merrimack tonight and a much-needed weekend sweep. And a nice contingent of Lowell fans in attendance too.

With the win, combined with Vermont's loss to BU, Lowell is all alone in second place with 13 points. Notre Dame helped out tonight, handing BC their first league loss of the year, keeping Lowell within striking distance of BC, 4 points behind.

Lowell was dominant tonight with 10 points scored by the defense out of 15. Metcalf looked very solid again in his second start of the season.

A much needed win. Now on to the mite rink at Merrimack tonight (and Fuddruckers) and hopefully a sweep.

The new third jerseys are fantastic and a vast improvement upon the uninspiring, unimaginative gray ones that hopefully will be destroyed in a bonfire. They were swamped last night with people preordering them.

Lowell Sun recap

Lawrence Eagle Tribune recap

Boston Herald recap

Any word on what they'll do with the jerseys? Auction?

Re: 2016/2016 Lowell Thread: Hoping for Chicago

So thoughts on the first half?

Some numbers and facts.

10-5-3, 6-3-1 in league (2nd, but almost everyone has games in hand).
Only HE win for Maine was against us.
4th in Hockey East in goals per game in league play. Second in GAA (2.1 to BU's 2.0).
3rd in overall goals per game (all games) and 4th in GAA.
16 games left in the season, but only 6 at home.
5-2-2 at home this season, 5-3-1 on the road.
Gamby tied for 6th in PPG (all games), while Smith is 15th.
Goransson tied for 11th in PPG (all games), Lohin 14th in freshmen PPG. Only Hausingter (34th) is also in the Top 50.
Wall 3rd in overall GAA (having played more than half of the team's games). 4th in save %.

Anybody driving back both nights of the Dartmouth tourney?

Thinking about what I want to do, especially w eye issues. Winter weather can really screw w my vision at night

His folks were in town. Cool they got to see it.

They're here almost every week. They sit one section over from us. They're loud, passionate, and a whole lot of fun to watch whenever Joe scores, makes a good play, or if he takes a penalty.
