Re: 2016/2016 Lowell Thread: Hoping for Chicago

Another potentially disastrous weekend looms ahead against Merrimack. Can't have a repeat of last weekend vs UConn but unfortunately the recent past shows that Merrimack will probably be a tough two games. Hoping that Fuddruckers on Saturday won't be the highlight of the weekend.

BC defeated NU again tonight 5-3. Impressive start by the Eagles. First place in HE at 8-0-1.

Yeah, they're basically running away with Hockey East this year. Almost halfway through the league schedule and they've only conceded one point.

Article from the Sun with feature on Joey G. and a weekend preview:

A couple of interesting tidbits at the end. Apparently Lowell is the first team in D-1 history to have 4 different goalies see action in a season. Also coach says the latest recruit, Cole Paskus, may come in next season.

Hopefully the new third jersey will bring the team luck Friday night.

3rd JERSEY: As part of the celebration of 50 years of UMass Lowell hockey the River Hawks will, tonight, unveil a third jersey. The design is based on the uniform worn by the Lowell Tech teams of the early 1970s.

Well it would be nice if we had a third/fourth jersey we could win games in. Not sure Merrimack is the opponent I would test a jersey against though.

There are so many better places to hit up than Fuddruckers. The 99, for one. But seriously.. Culpepper's, Grassfields, Palmers or Elm Square Oysters.

Not really a pilgrimage when North Andover is a mere 20 minutes from Lowell and there's one in Methuen as well.

all in the spirit... c'mon man, we all know fudds is barely all right... but its tradition

Wow, what's with the Chicken Little perspective? And I'm a Merrimack fan! Yes, tough weekend for you guys against UConn, but they've been a thorn for a couple of years now. Personally, I think UConn is a bit underrated, and Tage Thompson is an outstanding player.
The MC v UML games last year were a grind, and I agree, the Warriors always play you guys tough. A split wouldn't surprise me, and I'd be REALLY surprised (pleasantly) if MC can get 3 or more (less surprised if UML were to do that).

It will be interesting to see what Lowell team we see tonight. Metcalf or Wall?

Alright, so where should I go for good craft beer before the game in Lowell? (Other than the Beerworks.)

"Its the smallest rink in the conference... its not the same size, I guarantee it." ~Norm

It definitely feels smaller, but I thought no ice sheet is smaller than NHL size in college?

With a couple of new arenas you might be right... either way Merrimack has always been posted as regulation but it's always felt tiny because it's a glorified garage

I know in my time there were a couple that were a few feet short of regulation but nothing like the old days of 185x85.

Edit: I didn't realize the school could finesse the zones... clearly you wouldn't do it regularly but I never thought about it
