2016/2016 Lowell Thread: Hoping for Chicago

Re: 2016/2016 Lowell Thread: Hoping for Chicago

I don't feel safe at all. Things are so so so tight in the pairwise right now. Last nights Providence loss dropped them from 8 to 12 in a blink of an eye. That loss was to the 18th ranked team at the time in pairwise on the road. With that said, tonight game vs Umass is huge. I would imagine if we were to lose to them and the other teams that are hot on our heals won...we would then be a bubble team going into the BC weekend.

Agreed. Tonight is biggest trap game imaginable. I just hope our boys don't read these threads that have a lot of us, myself included, calculating positions based on already winning tonight. One game at a time!

I never think of this stuff until I come in here. Gigantic logic problem that has too many variables. That and I started watching when every win was a victory. :D

As I said "...looking sort of safe at 8 but shouldn't tempt fate and just keep winning." (not totally safe). Tonight's game scares the crap out of me as it has the potential to be the classic Lowell "lack of urgency/play down" scenario. That, and how the game went last weekend against Amherst (despite the win), should make everyone nervous. I would love to see a game like the RPI smackdown back in January, none of this toying with them and trying fancy stuff. Just put them away.

With that I've been reevalutating my position on never going to Amherst again and may head out. Who else is going?

Anyone ever watch a feed from The Flagship? Wondering if it'll be worth the $6.95 to stream??

I feel the same way. Amherst has nothing to lose and can play the spoiler. A loss tonight would be a pairwise disaster. Just take care of business one game at a time.

It's not that bad for the money. I'm trying to decide whether to make the drive or just pay for the stream.

I think I'm heading out shortly, against my better judgement from about 15 years ago. I hope I don't regret this.

I don't think you will have a bad time from their fans. Rafters sports bar has great wings one intersection from the football stadium, 3 minutes from Mullen if you're interested

We'll see. The last visit was an event filled evening from start to finish that required campus police being needed to safely escort the Lowell fans out of Mullins.

Re: 2016/2016 Lowell Thread: Hoping for Chicago

There were a few places that police escorts were needed in the past- UNH was another one. It wasn't even our fans being obnoxious

At least one observer thinks that barring a total collapse, we're just about in already: http://blog.collegehockeyranked.com...g-up-with-three-weeks-left-in-regular-season/

in the past Jim hasn't included the playoffs for the same reason I haven't tried yet... the tie-breakers are a problem to program if you aren't a skilled coder.

To that end, as I've said in the past, I can write the game score prediction model. If somebody else can write the code to faithfully execute all tie-breakers for the conferences (hard) and then the conference tournaments (easy-ish) then we can do anything post-beanpot... pre-beanpot would be a special encode for the beanpot... and further back for other tournaments.

not entirely... our esteemed yahoo writer was mouthy and then a player relative decided to lie about a slur word that was never used.

edit: if that's the one I'm thinking of... those afwul 8-4 playoff games with Conrad "punching after the whistle just means they're friendly" Hache.

edit #2: lest we all forget about the NU incident that resulted in expulsion of a student.

somebody inside the league, per their coach, said that "that penalty shouldn't have been a penalty much less a five minute major"... you guys saw it, I didn't.

What a whiny twit.
