2016-17 D3 Schedules

I'll get this going.

Norwich schedule is out and there are a few changes this season. Trinity is in there with former assistant coach Keith Maurice leading the Bantams.

Also, the big change is the East-West Hockey Classic has changed dates and moved from the opening weekend to the second weekend of January. Same teams as last year though with Elmira, Plattsburgh and Adrian.

That also caused shuffling with Norwich's away trips to Elmira and Plattsburgh, which will both now take place in the first semester instead of the second.

As a Plattbsurgh fan of both the Men's and Women's teams who is not too concerned about making the trip to Canton, this sets up a fantastic weekend in January... Norwich (M) @ Plattsburgh on 1/6, and then the East-West Classic on 1/7 and 1/8... :)

Re: 2016-17 D3 Schedules

Superior has posted their schedule...they better go 25-0 if they want any chance of making the NCAA's. http://uwsyellowjackets.com/schedule.aspx?path=whockey

4 against Northland...presumably will not be good.
2 against Finlandia (0-25 last year)
2 against St. Kate (6-14-5 last year)
1 against St.Olaf (2-21-2 last year)

Are they hamstrung by a travel budget or do they just not want to challenge themselves?

Granted they have 2 against St Thomas, 1 against Gustavus, Bethel but is that enough to counterbalance the weakness up above?

Just a quick check would show that they whopped on FU last year 21-3 in total goals in 3 games - tied and beat St. Kate's 1-1 and 2-0 and didn't play Olaf.

Swept by St. Thomas and tied GAC 1-1 who finished 9-11-5 last year.

UWS will miss their top 2 point producers, but seem to have finally found reliable goaltending?

Yeah...i'm not saying that they will be a contender...but every year they schedule a super easy non-conference schedule. Granted they have 13 non-conference games and you can't play St Thomas/Gustavus 8 times. But they seem to avoid the good NCHA teams. No Lake Forest, No SNC, No Adrian.

Heck Northland has a more competitive schedule then Superior...Apparently Northland is an independent?

Northlands Schedule
@ St Bens x 2
@ Superior
@ Augsburg x 2
@ St Nortbert
@ Finlandia
@ Lake Forest x 2
@ Stevens Point
@ Bethel x 2
vs. Concordia-MN
vs. St Kate
vs. River Falls x 2
vs. Adrian
vs. Finlandia
vs. Post University x 2
vs. Superior x 2
@ Adrian x 2
@ Superior

Re: 2016-17 D3 Schedules

Actually now all the western schools have their schedules up - all the NCHA teams, Northland, and all the WIAC schools EXCEPT UWSP. And all the MIAC's EXCEPT Gustavus, St. Catherine, St. Olaf & St. Thomas.

Cmon stragglers!!

Re: 2016-17 D3 Schedules

Lebanon Valley named their inaugural HC last month. They've hired Isabel Menard from a boarding school in Oakville, Ontario. Played at Syracuse and BU as well as professionally in Switzerland where she later coached.

One thing I find interesting is the HC for the men's team is quoted in the release. Was he the one who brought her on? Is that typical to have the men's coach of a team looking for the women's HC instead of an AD? Or am I reading too much into that?

Yes, it's a very weird situation from the sound of it. My understanding is that he was also doing the recruiting for the women's team. She's going to inherit players that she had no say in and that she's going to want to get rid of because they're going to be very low end players for the most part. Not a good way to start a new program.

The AD is quoted in the news release. Coming in so late it's not like she could do a lot of recruiting, though she still has time now. Was there a club team with those players expecting to continue? Did the AD ask for recruiting help because of the delay in hiring? Possible yes to both. She was going to deal with leftovers so to speak regardless.

Gustavus is up: https://gustavus.edu/athletics/whky/schedule/

Nonconference is all the WIACs and St. Norbert.. They also go on a christmas European Tour. I bet many teams would love to do that.
