2015 World is upon us.

Re: 2015 World is upon us.

Main tournament web site at http://www.worldwomen2015.com/.

However, I haven't been able to find anything about video coverage state-side. The site says that Universal Sports is televising the games, but I didn't see anything on their listings.

In Canada the games are covered via the National sports broadcaster. :)

Here is their pre-view: http://www.tsn.ca/canada-s-roster-set-for-women-s-worlds-1.228902

It is on TSN5, Canada-USA Friday at 11am. http://www.tsn.ca/tv#/
(Listings are hard to follow, but click on TSN5 and then on Friday March 28)

I love this roster for Canada, new blood. But didn't Dan Church get stabbed in the back by Hocjkey Canada just before Sochi for wanting to do exactly the same thing, cut some vets and bring in new kids???

It is common for veterans phase out after the Olympic cycle is done. For some they are taking time off from the NT (i.e. Szabados has her obligations to her pro team, Agosta with career, Mikkelson for family, etc.) so there is the room to bring in new faces. This happens in other Olympic sports as well where some athletes will take a season off to get things in their life sorted before starting the cycle again. Whether or not the veterans who haven't made their retirement official plan on trying to come back will happen over the next year or so.

So the short answer is: they had to bring in new faces otherwise they wouldn't have much of a team. ;)

I did not compare rosters, but this might very well be the first time in MANY MANY years that Canada has a younger squad than their USA counterparts. So what happens if Canada wins ?. Would any of the vets be invited back ?. I mean Canada has only one won one worlds in the last 5 or 6 times (if memory serves me correctly).

I for one will look forward to watching this years worlds and how it unfolds.!!!

Who knows with the worlds? But I am saving all of my soda and beer cans that are redeemable and putting all of the money into a fund to purchase a ticket and accommodations to an amazing tropical beach for two weeks in February of 2018. Miss Poulin will be receiving the ticket so that Team USA will have a fighting chance to win a stinkin' Olympic Gold medal next time around.

Australia in February >>> South Korea in winter.

Re: 2015 World is upon us.

Just checked & Sweden and Japan are tied at 3 with only a couple of minutes left. 24 PIM so far, not sure if they played it rugged or ragged to earn that many.

EDIT: Just went to OT

Re: 2015 World is upon us.

Not news for most of us on the board, but a very interesting read none-theless....

Either inaccurate or misleading depending on how one interprets this paragraph. Canada and the U.S. were the only countries to centralize for the year in 2014.
All players from the world's top female hockey countries have adopted the Canadian model and now suspend school and work for an entire winter. They train full-time with their respective national teams for the Games.

Re: 2015 World is upon us.

End of the first, USA 3, Canada 1.

USA with 3 power play goals, by JLam, Brandt, and Coyne. Jenner scored for Canada after Jocelyne's goal, but they couldn't stay out of the sin bin. Shots are 15-4 USA. Bellamy has two assists.

Re: 2015 World is upon us.

Japan won shootout

TSN4 just gives me another reason I wish I lived in Canada.

First period in the books. 3-1 USA. US scored all three on the PP, first one on a 5-3. US had the faster team and more chances. Jenner scored a sweet goal for Canada on a breakaway from a Spooner feed. US's top line with Knight-Decker looking very strong. US goals by Lam (5 on 3 great shot in far top corner), Brandt (re-direct from a Bellamy Point shot, also found the top corner) and forgot who scored the third.

Edit: Third scored by Coyne.

US 3 - Can 1 after one.

US pp and speed and Canada's penalties are the story so far.

J-LAM/Dav, Bellamy, Coyne.

Jenner on a breakaway for Canada.

Vetter and Lacasse in goal.

A couple of questionable calls and lots of empty seats.

Re: 2015 World is upon us.

TSN4 just gives me another reason I wish I lived in Canada.

Rod Black doing play by play, Cheryl Pounder doing the color. Tessa Bonhomme in the studio along with another young lady whose name escapes me (not a known player)
