2015 World is upon us.

Re: 2015 World is upon us.

Canada didn't have the goaltending we've come to expect. I doubt I'll see the Canadians allow 7 goals again in my lifetime.

I dunno, I was at a game a few years ago where they gave up more than 7.

Re: 2015 World is upon us.

I thought Rod Black's comment was kind of interesting. In the first period he mentioned that on 2 out of the first 3 US goals Desbiens had no chance, then he questioned whether or not she would be yanked after the first period and I don't think that he was considering that possibility as being a move by the coach in order to motivate the team. This is a very experienced sportscaster which I guess shows that in the tension of the moment in games and rivalries like this anyone is potentially subject to have their emotions affect their judgment.

Mr Blacks comments WRT the goaltending were most interesting BOTH yesterday AND today. IMHO some of them were "off the mark". For example, Desbiens had issues on several of the four first period goals. In one case she was not square to the shooter, in another she had trouble with rebound control, and the fourth goal she would probably like to have back. Now I'm not blaming her for the loss, she did not have a lot of help in front of her in the first period either so you can look towards the whole team for that not so great first period. The US was certainly full value for the lead after one, and Canada was actually lucky to be within 2 at that point.

Re: 2015 World is upon us.

Tough day for UW goaltenders.

Fortunately, a much better day for UW forwards with goals from Pankowski, Knight and Decker. I flat out felt bad for Desbiens and was surprised at Vetter's struggles. When Rigsby got scored on quickly, I said out loud, "What the h-ll is going on here?"

It was a very entertaining game to watch, though it was odd seeing all those goals. I thought Universal Sports did a good job with the broadcast. Maybe the NCAA could hire (or at least consult with) them for future women's Frozen Four broadcasts.

It must be nice to have third and fourth lines consisting of players like Skarupa, Brandt, Cameranesi, Hickel, etc. But if I remember correctly they were the wrong kind of players (non-Harvard) for the Olympics

I find watching TSN any time things are not going Canada's way to be hilarious. Last year (as I recall) the men lost the bronze medal game at the worlds & you would have thought the PM had died. a national day of morning was declared (kidding) and a recommendation that there be a national commission to determine how this could happen be held (seriously). I didn't think Desbien looked that bad, she was hung out to dry but they sure panicked fast.
Very entertaining game which can't hurt the sport even if the defence and goaltending weren't the best on both teams. Fast and exciting...TV coverage in the US would have helped spread awareness.
Certainly could not complain about the scoring!

Overall horrific goaltending from Vetter, sub-par from Rigsby and Desbien. Both these teams should be greatful nobody else has forwards with speed or they might have not been playing in this game.

I heard that there was some rumbling about proving the Olympic team missed some choices at the NCAA championship game. Whether that was serious or just motivational I don't know. I'd still like to hear how Bozak was not on this team. At least TSN didn't treat us to 5 minutes of miscues from #7 but I still think the D line could have used Megan.

Re: 2015 World is upon us.

Absolutely gorgeous highlight reel goal by Finland in the Bronze Medal Game vs Russia with about 4:30 left in the second period...Rantamaki up ice to Karvinen with the sweep to the trailing Rantamaki cross crease to Valimaki all alone back door and in. Beeeeeautiful!

The whole lot is a farse! Hockey Canada & USA hockey have been hamstrung by lame politics!!!! period!!!! its a scam!!! Don't get me wrong, good players, yes, but the best? OVERATED for sure!! Glad its over!!!!

Re: 2015 World is upon us.

When you look at the talent pool of both teams in North America, I would have to say as a whole they do a pretty good scouting job to find the best 50 to 60 girls in any given year to bring to camps. They may not make 100% of the people happy all the time but for the most part the talent that both team roll out year after year is very good. Lets not forget that this is a long process until the 2018 Olympics. I'm sure there will be changes as one year rolls into the next. I love watching these two teams battle each and every event. The women's game is growing every year with better talent. I'm sure that 5 years from now we will have a bigger pool of talent and more of that talent will be left out of tournament play.
