Re: 2015 Women's Frozen Four Championship: Who Wins?

The most the Gophers have given up in any game so far is 3.

And last year the most goals Minnesota gave up in any game leading to the championship with Clarkson was also 3. do di do do, do di do do

Shows how good Clarkson was. :)

The Gophers have only given up more than 3 goals in a game once since Feb 11, 2012 (Ohio State-4 in a 7-4 win)

OUCH!!

Re: 2015 Women's Frozen Four Championship: Who Wins?

I believe the Gophers squeeze past the Badgers in a low-scoring game. BC over Harvard comfortably, then Minnesota over BC in a tight, evenly-played contest.

IMO, the difference makers are UM's power play and the Frost effect. By stressing the process over the results, Frost's teams are (almost) always ready for big games.

Re: 2015 Women's Frozen Four Championship: Who Wins?

Harvard is a DISTANT fourth to the other three in terms of team defense...

UW: 1.08 GAA
BC: 1.18 GAA
UM: 1.18 GAA
...
HU 1.53 GAA

Hey smarty pants, your looking at again the whole body of work, you have to look at "the what have you done for me lately" scenario. I bet you car was faster and shinier when you first bought it.

Over the last 10 games for HU, UW, UM, BC:

GAA's:

HU - 10 for a 1.00 GAA (includes games against: BC #2, Cornell x 2 #9, Clarkson #7, Quinnipiac x 2 #6) Played six ranked teams in last 10 games
UW - 10 for a !.00 GAA (games against: UND #8, BSU #10, BU #5) Played 3 ranked teams in last 10 games
UM - 13 for a 1.30 GAA (games against UND x 2 #8, BSU x 3 #10) Played 5 ranked teams in last 10 games
BC - 14 for a 1.40 GAA (games against: Harvard #3, BU x 3 #5, Clarkson #7) Played 5 ranked teams in last 10 games

Strength of schedule goes to Harvard, then BC, UM, UW.

HU was without Pucci and Armstrong for all of the first half. Pucci is force both defensively and offensively. Armstrong didn't play last year and the first half of this year due to injury. Prior to her injury she won Top Defensive Player for the league (I think)?

Maschmeyer was sketchy in the first 4 games of the season. If you check out her GAA's since that time she is under 1 GAA.

So TTT your team is not playing the Harvard of November, your trumpet better be primed, because your team will be facing the Harvard of March. The Ivy team BC is playing might be their poison ivy. Ivy predominantly starts growing in March.

I bet you wish you had the car you got when you first bought it, not the one stuck in the snow bank.

Re: 2015 Women's Frozen Four Championship: Who Wins?

Furthermore TTT:

Against those ranked teams the GAA is as follows:

UW - GAA .666 (2 goals in 3 ranked games)
HU - GAA 1.33 (8 goals in 6 ranked games)
UM - GAA 1.80 (9 goals in 5 ranked games)
BC - GAA 2.00 (10 goals in 5 ranked games)

Note - these stats only include the last 10 games of play. "Remember new car/old car"

I wouldn't build the trophy cabinet yet.

Re: 2015 Women's Frozen Four Championship: Who Wins?

As I said somewhere else, UW's yucky streak against UM is nothing more than history and has no impact on what will happen Friday. UW's play has come along way since they last met the rodents. The Fr are playing like vets, and the D are playing so well, and so is ARD. They disposed of UND, BSU and BU when those teams were in MUST win situations. I haven't felt this confident in the matchup all year. (confident as in it's a 50/50 bout, unlike last year).

Me too. UW is going to beat the Gophers again sometime. But that doesn't mean it will be Friday.

Re: 2015 Women's Frozen Four Championship: Who Wins?

I voted for who has the most talent on one roster. That has been the thing pretty much all season long. I think for them it will be the most disappointing if they do not win it all.
One man's disappointment, another man's delight. ;)

True...Although taking delight in the presence of fans who would "love to meet you at the rink" may not be the wisest plan (as holding up Chuck Norris sayings probably wouldn't either but that would sure be tempting.) ;)

Not something I'd worry about. If I have reason, I'll be expressing my delight.

Re: 2015 Women's Frozen Four Championship: Who Wins?

We need to develop weighted votes. If you vote for your favorite team its only 10% of a vote. If you vote for a team in your teams conference its only 50% of a vote. Lets be honest BC and harvard fans have not seen enough of Wisconsin and Minnesota to say who might win and visa-versa. This is more a poll of "who I want to win". AS much as we whine about the N¢$$ not having a clue because of the lack of interleauge play . . .

My guess is that Minny would still lead the pack with 1.9 votes.

Re: 2015 Women's Frozen Four Championship: Who Wins?

I voted for Minnesota, even though my heart is with Harvard.

Re: 2015 Women's Frozen Four Championship: Who Wins?

The original post in setting up the poll asked "Choose the team that you believe will win this year's Championship." But as a "fan forum" it's to be expected that the many here will lose some objectivity and vote with their heart. Which, after much consideration and coming to the conclusion that any of the four teams could easily win this thing, is precisely what I'm going to do - vote with my heart! ;)

GO GOPHERS!

Re: 2015 Women's Frozen Four Championship: Who Wins?

Well if nothing else the semifinal results proved my contention that "any of the four teams could easily win this thing" to be correct. I'm fully convinced, if the teams were to play one another again tomorrow, the result - and score - of each game could easily be reversed. But as so often happens in the game of hockey, especially in a single elimination tournament, goaltending played a huge role in determining both outcomes. I think it's safe to say that all 3,400 in attendance yesterday were treated to some excellent (and wonderfully exciting!) hockey. From a pure fan's perspective both games were a real treat to watch. And yes, I would still say that if my favorite team didn't manage to come out on top! :)

Re: 2015 Women's Frozen Four Championship: Who Wins?

Very well said D2D....I concur, as I loved both games! Was surprised that UW looked like a different team than last week...maybe they just don't show up against Minnesota, as recent results prove out. Was very impressed with Harvard's D, and Mashmeier ( sp).....I'm not sure if Harvard can do it vs Minne though because I'm not sure they can score 4 goals like Clarkson did! It'll be some great hockey either way....
Thoroughly enjoyed the Patty Kaz broadcast today! Looking forward to attending next years in Durham.
