2015 Bottom-Feeder Bracket/FutileFour Pre-Season Predictions

***OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE***

Pandora OH. The executive committee of the BFB held a rare mid-season emergency meeting last night at Stinky's Bar in rural NW Ohio to consider a procedural question. After a lengthy discussion fueled by Old Milwaukee and Blatz, it was decided that BFB will NOT disqualify a team from consideration simply because they have been banned from post-season play by the NCAA. The issue had arisen over the NCAA's recently announced sanctions against the University of Alaska.

Good work; a lot of us were wondering how this detail night play out in March, should some of the bottom runners choke.

Re: 2015 Bottom-Feeder Bracket/FutileFour Pre-Season Predictions

The B1G conference office has inadvertently let a confidential memo slip out. I have not seen the actual document, but the context seems to suggest that the 2005 Frozen Four is serving as a blueprint for the future of the league. They think it's possible that for the first time in BFB history, one league could send all four teams to the Futile Four.

Something to shoot for.

Re: 2015 Bottom-Feeder Bracket/FutileFour Pre-Season Predictions

Only Wisco remains winless at 0-6-0, while other contenders slipped by winning and tying some games, although following four are still chasing Wisco: Northeastern at 1-8-1, Lake State at 2-10-0, Huntsville at 2-8-2, and Colorado College at 2-7-0. Jury still out on ECAC Ivies.

Northern Michigan, my school, has promptly played its way out of the Futile Four with a 6-1-1 start, but we're not in that other tournament yet. So, we're kind of in the middle...

A leading indicator for BFB: Loser of tonight's Brown/Cornell match. Ursa minor...?

Re: 2015 Bottom-Feeder Bracket/FutileFour Pre-Season Predictions

I'd say that beating Ferris last weekend pulls UAH up from the floor, but then the Bulldogs' one-point weekend against 0-fer Wisco, well ...

I think the field will start fleshing itself out in January.

Re: 2015 Bottom-Feeder Bracket/FutileFour Pre-Season Predictions

The Silverdome may no longer be in play for next year's Futile Four. The roof is gone, and I know organizers don't want to play in an "outdoor" facility.

I know the committee has previously stated their desire to NOT join the parade of outdoor games, BUT this place MIGHT just work.
Altho I am not in a position to speak for the committee, I wouldn't be surprised to see Silverdome on the short list of venues to be considered. Why?...
1. Just look at the picture. It speaks for itself.
2. Its being outdoor is NOT intentional, but due to neglect. BFB LOVES neglected, run-down properties. This MAY be the ultimate.
3. Pontiac is a festering boil on the infected backside known to the world as Detroit.

Re: 2015 Bottom-Feeder Bracket/FutileFour Pre-Season Predictions

I think its time for the committee to man up and chose at least one outdoor pond style hockey location. as a Yooper, I would like to suggest Lake Superior. rough surface, layers of snow, ice volcanoes, jagged edged icy chucks for spectators to sit on, extreme cold and winds, the odd chance of someone going through the ice into the Lake, or a wind coming up and detaching the ice from the land and blowing it out into the Lake could all make for fun. plenty of old rundown industrial cities or decrepit hunting camps or small inbred towns to use as home base. Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan could all be in the running or if the committee is truly trying to go cutting edge they could chose Canada for international flare. also southern spring winds make the chance of the game getting blown out to sea less likely - more ice will pile up on the Canadian side.

Outdoor games are gimmicky, and therefore draw fans. Bad idea.

The committee could choose the Soo Locks; they wouldn't even have to put boards up if they drain enough water out. Or what about Whitefish Point? Well, that wouldn't be fair to Bemidji should they make it, as Fitzgeralds have a bad history in that region.

Re: 2015 Bottom-Feeder Bracket/FutileFour Pre-Season Predictions

Here's a looks at the mid-season FARTS. (Freddie's Arbitrary Ranking of Teams that Suck). If the season ended today, this would be the field for the BottomFeederBracket:

1. Niagara
2. American International
3. Wisconsin
4. Army
5. Lake Superior
6. Alabama-Huntsville
7. U Mass
8. Colorado Col
9. Air Force
10. Sacred Heart
11. RIT
12. Princeton
13. Maine
14. Brown
15. New Hampshire
16. Michigan State

Let the bickering and whining begin.

the Soo Locks?? that's an idea. and they are open that time of year so it would be a little more challenging. stoppage of game for filling and draining of the lock.

who says outdoor games are gimmicky? Sidney Crosby?

And what would the brackets look like?

It's WAY to early to start thinking too much about that..but we are concerned about the potential 8-9 match-up between crosstown rivals Air Force and Colorado College. The committee will, no doubt, have to send this pairing off to some god forsaken venue in New England.

But the Silverdome will deter fans from attending due to the dangerous nature of the deteriorating building. Plus everyone knows it's a pile of crap so that will deter the local fans from bothering to show up.

Shocking that only 6 teams from AHA are in the bracket, and only NCHC has 1 team in the tourney. I wonder if that's a new "low" for AHA in participation. Though I guess there may be more AHA teams added as non-conference games slow down?
