2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

I'd be interested to read a report from the BU/PSU game. BU handily won the shot count, and there was nothing in Penn State's performance last week that indicated that they could score five goals on 26 shots. Bad goaltending? Bad turnovers?

BC better watch out, or all of the cupcakes will have been eaten before they get there.

First time posting. Long time reader.
BU definitely has issues in net. They were present last year as well. Down the stretch they got better. Pedigree would suggest it will happen again but who knows.
Looks to me like with the loss of Poulin there's a void many are trying to fill. Not as much team play as I'm sure the coach would like. Lots of shots no quality.
Defensively a work in progress. Lost a lot to graduation on the back end as well.
Durocher isn't a screamer. I'm sure he knew there would be a bit of a hangover this year. He will give them a bit of rope before he tightens things up. Hopefully it happens before they start ranking out of at large territory because I don't think they'll win HE tourney.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Regarding Penn State: I have watched approximately half of that team play since they were U12s, and there is a lot of quality there. I am not surprised to see them compete well against BU.

I think PSU's result last week against the Gophers says more about the Minny defense (and backchecking forwards) than anything else. Hard to see how anybody is going to score even-strength goals against that team.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

1) Minnesota
2) Wisconsin
3) Clarkson
4) North Dakota
5) Boston College
6) Harvard: Have to play to ascend.
7) Bemidji State
8) Quinnipiac
9) Boston University
10) Mercyhurst

Mark Johnson has another championship caliber team, IMO.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

My current rankings, based on slightly more information than last week:

1. Minnesota
2. Wisconsin

3. Clarkson
4. Bemidji
5. BC
6. Harvard
7. North Dakota
8. BU

9. Mercyhurst
10. Penn State

There is a big gap between 2 and 3, and another between 8 and 9. I predict 6 meetings between UM and UW, and I do not predict the Gophers taking them all. I hope the Badgers will be satisfied with taking some regular-season points off the Gophers.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

I don't understand BC at 5 (not 2?), or Mercy at 9 (should be out after loss and tie to QU).

I won't have BC at 2 this week. #3 for me if they take care of business against SLU tomorrow.

Wisconsin has played an incredibly soft pair of opponents to start the year but they've looked a lot better than BC has.

Still, idk about 5. I do like how both people who have BC at 5 have a different WCHA team ahead of them (BSU/ND at 4) and the other one (ND/BSU at 7) ranked way lower. Heh.

Bemidji that high seems particularly silly since they actually have a common opponent with BC that BC did better against. And NoDak had, what, 3 close games against poor opponents.

Anyway BC at #5 seems pretty low to me but they are playing pretty poorly at the moment, so, I mean, play better and maybe people won't rank us 5th.

My thoughts as well. Up until now I've had BC at #2, but the Badgers have looked very good, albeit against inferior opponents.

I won't defend my pick of Mercyhurst at #9. By that point, I was throwing darts. However, I will defend placing BSU at #4. They have a plan and they commit to it, and that can make up for their talent gap.

Also, I recognize that both BC and BSU have played UMD and the BSU games were closer. To me, that is less relevant because BSU beat UMD by playing Bemidji-style. They won't score a lot of goals but they are always in the game in the third period. If BC had enforced their will on UMD, I would have given them credit for that. Ultimately, it's early and I will disavow all this if BSU gets blown out by Mankato or somebody.

I agree with you, in that I still have BC at #2. But you also have to know that UMD is a moving target. The Bulldogs have a new coach putting in her own systems, and they should get more comfortable in them as time goes by. But in week two, UMD was a little like Cornell was out of the gate last year when BC whipped a team that was still trying to figure out who should be on what line while the Eagles had been going for almost a month. The other disadvantage the Beavers had as compared to BC is that they only got to shoot at Black for 20 minutes. After scoring two goals on her, Crowell went with Rooney for the rest of the weekend.

I get the darts. That's what time of year it is. Mercy did lose the weekend to QU though, and that might provide some more accuracy than the dart board.

You're loving the lower expectations this year for the Eagles. I get it. But not much has changed... they are stacked.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

1) Minnesota -- Feasting on cupcakes
2) Wisconsin -- Feasting on cupcakes
3) Boston College -- Feasting on something somewhat healthy so naturally everyone is going to drop them below Wisconsin, because reasons. I almost put them back at #2 after today's game against SLU which was their best of the year, and because their opponents are better than both UM's and UW's, but, nah. Not yet.

4) Clarkson -- Scary
5) Harvard -- Invisible

6) Bemidji State -- No respeck, no respeck at all.
7) North Dakota -- Also feasting on cupcakes, although less impressively... geez, since when did the WCHA decide to go all WHEA?*
8) Quinnipiac -- Sure

9) Boston University -- Useless
10) Penn State -- Best 1-3 team in the land

Nine on back are all way behind the rest at the moment.

Northeastern is completely useless for getting pants'd by Lindenwood. Seriously? It is amazing how much talent gets wasted on Huntington Avenue.

*THIS WAS A JOKE, PLEASE BE ADVISED, THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING

you were singing their praise just last week

OK, I get it, you are hedging your bet, if Penn St falters, NE may rise

one thing that may turn out in Lindenwood's favor, they play a tough NC schedule, so it should come as no surprise they occasionally win one
and you'd think over time it will make them better
maybe if they become a top ten team, others will get off the cupcake diet

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

1> Minnesota - From MBTC: Too many, too good
2> Wisconsin - Making mincemeat out of Providence...Not surprising. Making mincemeat out of OSU...Eyebrow raising
3> BC - Trying their best to keep up with the west.
4> Clarkson - Quietly putting together a nice resume
5> Harvard - Mostly here by reputation at this point with Bemidji knocking at the door.
6> Bemidji - This is the quintessential PITA team to play
7> Quinnipiac - Bobcats or NoDakers...Quinnipiac has a nickname.
8> North Dakota - Least impressive 4-0 record and they have no nickname.
9> BU - Losing to Penn State seems bad but maybe it really isn't?
10> Northeastern - They probably don't belong here losing to Lindenwood but who else? Just can't put Penn State here yet.

It's worth noting that Grant thinks there are only eight teams in the country that aren't complete garbage. Well, ten, I guess, even though he ranks two teams that are over SLU and UMD, who apparently aren't.

Well, there's a bit of nuance to my adjectives.

"Totally useless" comes before "complete garbage." Outside of the top 8 there are probably 4 or 5 teams that are totally useless. Beyond that, yeah, complete garbage.

UMD I think hovers between totally useless and complete garbage. I would put them in Totally Useless right now.
SLU would be totally useless if they managed to not be winless. For now they are complete garbage until they get some W's.

:p

Also in the mix, meaning nowhere near useless - don’t take them lightly:
Cornell, Mercyhurst, St. Lawrence, Northeastern, Minnesota-Duluth
