2015-2016 Schedules

Re: 2015-2016 Schedules

The game counts, but Sacred Heart won't play enough D-I/II games to qualify for selection??
No, but it will affect Brown's RPI nonetheless, and by extension everyone who plays Brown. Sacred Heart doesn't qualify for selection but games against them still count in RPI calculation.

The problem -- like I had last year -- is that USCHO's PWR doesn't seem to factor in Sacred Heart's games correctly.

I reached out to the NCAA about this last year because we had the same issue with Yale, and this was their response:

Regarding the question you had about the Yale/Sacred Heart game women’s ice hockey game coming up…all games against Division I/II competition will be reflected in the RPI. However, teams that do not play a minimum of 20 games against DI/DII opponents and have an RPI at or above 50.00 are not eligible for selection into the championship...

...Only the games that are played against DI/DII opponents affect the RPI whether it be someone’s Opponents’ or their Opponents’ Opponents. In other words, Sacred Heart's record against its DI/II opponents would be what is calculated in the Opponent's Winning Percentage for Yale.

So, the only games last year that should have counted in the RPI calculation were Sacred Heart's games against Yale, St. Michael's, St. Anselm, Holy Cross, and Franklin Pierce, as well as SH/SM/SA/HC/FP's games against each other, as well as games between the "full time" D1 teams.

My calculator was doing that, but USCHO's was not, and I'm not really sure why the difference nor which games USCHO was including because I could not get Yale's RPI to match up to USCHO's last year.

Merrimack is charging SEVEN DOLLARS per ticket??
Around here, that's about what it costs to attend a high school girls' game. For women's college games, some charge that or a little less, others charge more.

Re: 2015-2016 Schedules

Merrimack is not located in Minnesota afaik
I can clear that up for you: no, it's not. But the attitude here is that if you act like the product is worthless, then people are less likely to think it is worth watching. Maybe Merrimack was less than impressed by the results achieved by the BC pricing model.

I am a big fan of the bc pricing model. Used to be a fan of the parking price model too but that changed. The biggest problem with Merrimack charging $7 is so man of there games are 2pm on Fridays, Local high schools aren't even out at that time for get younger kids and adults who work.

Re: 2015-2016 Schedules

Is the $7 really that big a deal? Are people that would otherwise go to a game deciding to not go because they are asked to put down $7? Movies cost more except for bargain pricing, and people are still willing to go to those.

I hear you on the parking, but it is one of the problems in any city where demand is great and space is not.

It's just different out here. It's not something "everybody does" and for Merrimack the product does not warrant it.

People who care enough to go in the first place will pay it, yeah, but they'd also pay $10, $15, $20... it's just dumb imo.

I'm going to go Saturday. I'd rather see the "product" before I judge it. $7.00 is half the price of a movie ticket, and you never know if you will think it's money well spent unless you actually watch it.

I did a quick check of all 9 Hockey East and all 12 ECAC programs and it appears that 12 of the 21 teams charge admission for women's games (5 HE, 7 ECAC). In the Boston area only BC does not charge admission.

Hockey East
Boston College, free
Boston University, $6
Connecticut, free
Maine, free
Merrimack, $7
New Hampshire, $7
Northeastern, $5
Providence, $0
Vermont, $5

ECAC
Brown, free
Clarkson, $5
Colgate, free
Cornell, $6
Dartmouth, $7
Harvard, $10
Quinnipiac, $5
Princeton, free
Rensselaer, $5
St. Lawrence, free
Union , $3
Yale, free

BU has charged admission since the program began ten years ago. However, this year, for the first time, they did not charge for the exhibition game.
Maine originally charged for women's games, but from what I found on their website that appears to no longer be the case.
New Hampshire has charged at least since BU began
Northeastern has charged at least since BU began
Harvard has charged at least since BU began

Re: 2015-2016 Schedules

For men's season ticket holders the women's games are free except homecoming. Also students of the college get free admission to all sporting events.

I forgot that I attended a high school girl's game last season(Lincoln-Sudbury vs Wayland/Weston combined team) that cost $7 per person.
