2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

It was obvious to me but anytime someone brings up that National Championship I like to recognize it :) . It still brings a tear to my eye and a smile to my face.
As it should - it brought tears to many Gopher fans too :)

"Laid an egg" or not, Clarkson was the better team in that game, although really I don't think any Minnesota fans are making excuses. Everyone agrees Clarkson deserved it.

That game was FANTASTIC, by the way, epic showcase of the sport.

It was a classic, if my kids had to lose at least they did it well, nothing to feel ashamed, both teams left it all out there, on that day Clarkson was better. Now, I wish it were a best of 7 but it could just have been 4-3 Clarkson, they were that close.

I think in that game the Gophers outplayed the Knights more or less for the first 18 minutes. The very end of the first and beginning of the second was freakish-Leveille let in a softie-the Gophers got rattled-Clarkson smelled blood and scored 3 in a couple minutes. Clarkson delivered big time when the opportunity was there.

The rest of the second period the Gophers got it together, scored two and tied the game.

I do think the Gophers laid an egg in the 3rd period. All year they were a tremendous third period team, and they were not in this game. I was very disappointed in them.

That's how this Gophers fan saw it. Clarkson deserved to win-congratulations to them! But I wish the Gophers played better in the third period :(

Probably after this year's NCAA tourney, the Clarkson-UM championship game will be taken down from the NCAA site, because they only seem to leave 20 archived videos up.

I agree with all this. That first 18 minutes was a masterclass, and frankly terrifying for Eastern fans. But by the end the Gophers wanted to lose. That whole final minute with the extra attacker, and especially the last thirty seconds, they had nothing left.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

What struck me watching the game was the way that Clarkson neutralized the Gophers' backchecking. That was the signature feature of that Minnesota team, and for several years prior. They had such speed among the forwards that all three could be below the goal line in the offensive zone and still manage to get back to disrupt their opponent in transition. Clarkson's game plan was that once they got the puck, they didn't screw around or make lateral passes; they just got the puck to the lead player and skated directly for the other end. It completely disrupted the Gophers' entire approach.

It's the difference between one game for all of the marbles and a seven game series. Give them 48 hours before a second game, and I'd bet that the Gopher coaching staff could have come up with a counter. I still think Minnesota wins that hypothetical series 4 games to 2. But, of course, they don't play a series in the NCAA tournament, and Clarkson was the better team in the format they do use.

Yes...This is the part I was thinking of as far as the goaltending not being up to par.

Western Elitism say the Gophers would have won a theoretical seven game series in 5. ;)

If you do watch it, I would be curious to hear your opinion of Leveille's play from a goalie dad's perspective.

just watched the first period. I actually said to myself with 2 minutes left that there is no way Clarkson wins this game. totally outplayed and BAM, 2 quick ones.

like many people say its tough as a goalie to sit around all period, get 3-4 shots, and stay sharp. it's probably the toughest thing for a goalie to do is stay mentally tough for that type of game. May have been a bit nervous but you cant tell. she is kind of small though.

if I didn't know Clarkson won i'd still say it would be a final of 6-2 Minnesota...which makes it more intriguing to watch the rest.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

BU up 1-0 over Harvard in just the first couple of minutes on a goal by Maddie Elia.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Elia just scored again. BU up 2-0 on three shots only five minutes into the game.

EDIT: While posting this, Miye D'Oench scores for Harvard. 2-1 BU.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Sydney Daniels just tied it for Harvard with 6:12 left in the third. Briana Mastel had made it 3-2 in the second.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

At least one Harvard team showed up for a Beanpot consolation. Now 3-3 with 6 min to play.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

4-3 harvard with 58 sec left. Deflection in front. Daniels with both the tying and winning goals
Final is 5-3 with ENG.
