2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Shootout, Shmootout!

It cost us a chance at a conference co-title, so I guess this one matters, but Gophers should have just won the game.

Good game by UND though. Puck was on it's edge the whole game I think

It was not the shootout that cost the Gophers. either play the dam game to a win or admit it was a tie & go home. If you want to give away points hold a shoot out before every game & pretend it really means anything of value. UND played a good game, particularly the second period. The Gophers dominated the first half of the first and the entire OT. This is Wisconsins year, I hope they enjoy it and it does not happen again.

ARD is around for 1 more year and the freshmen F's coming in are more talented than the Sr's, looks like UW will be a factor next season as well. Still a lot of hockey to go this season. If UW wins the league title, that will be nice, but the ncaa is what everyone really wants. That nut needs to get cracked again.

Seems that right now UW and UM are having some issues scoring.

Anyone at Colgate v Q game? Reading box scores and recaps but not sure what happened. Shots Q 34 to C 18. Q doesn't usually give up 3 goals.

It gets worse! I heard yesterday that WI is getting a player that was described as "a Kelly Terry type". I will now alter my previous to say "enjoy your run". I only ask 2 things: please be gracious winners and don't lay an egg against an eastern team, one of those was too many :)

Nobody laid an egg of any kind...Clarkson was clearly the better team without question that day and earned their title fair and square. They outworked and outplayed the Gophers plain and simple.

I shall be gracious if UW goes all the way, then womens' posters are the kind that makes it easy to not be a flamer, and I have totally bought the west vs east battle. A loss to an eastern team is a bitter thought.

Care to drop a name on the Kelly Terry type? UW does have 1 F spot open for next year and I was wondering what MJ was going to do with that spot.

He means Norby. Frost referred to her as such yesterday. Frost has also described Cameranesi and Schipper in the same fashion over the years, so it means anyone who is very fast, not particularly big, and dogged in pursuit of the puck.

Norby has better hands and stick skills than Terry. Wisconsin fans will enjoy watching her. Kipper Keller would be a little closer in comparison to what Terry was coming in as a freshman.

It was definitely a factor in several shootout attempts. My theory: the end where the Gophers were shooting was way more worn and rough from all the zone time the Gophers had in the 3rd period! If they had reversed direction the Gophers would have won the shootout for sure! ;)

You're undervaluing Terry a bit. She had 39 points as a freshman and defensively she was more advanced than most Minnesota HS kids going D-I.

Maybe so...

Terry reminded me of a mens player (Troy Riddle) from the early 2000 championship years who was super fast and certainly put up quite a few points, but would have scored more goals with better hand-eye coordination.

I agree on hands. What separated her from a lot of others is that she always worked so hard. A lot of people work hard, but she never seemed to run out of energy and just kept going (like into the third OT of a certain game).

Terry was the energizer bunny, she never quit often was the first player down the ice & then first back up the ice on a shift. Sarah Davis was maybe not as fast but even tougher in the comers. Those two together made trouble for every team they played against. There were better scorers and they owe a number of their goals to those two creating chaos and wearing teams out. There are going to be many more great games between MN & WI.

Someone clearly has a complex.

Ya, they kinda laid an egg. But wasn't that Clarkson team like the Canadian National Team or something?

That was more Cornell a couple years earlier. Clarkson had some national team kids, but not to the degree that the Big Red did.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

I get the Riddle and Kelly comparison. Troy Riddle was my favorite Gopher player when he played in 01-04. Boy could he fly down the rink with the puck. Koalska and Vanek had a heckuva time trying to keep up with him. But was Riddle as tenacious a defensive player as Terry? Not even close. Terry had only one speed and it was always at full throttle at both ends of the rink. Thinking of Vanek I'm reminded that he use to disappear for much of the game and then suddenly he would make some move or play that was just eye popping.

My wife's favorite player back then was Matt Demarchi. Something about a water bottle, if my memory serves correct, but then that's another story.

It was a joke kids. Given that it was the only time an Eastern team has won the thing I thought it was obviously tongue in cheek

It was obvious to me but anytime someone brings up that National Championship I like to recognize it :) . It still brings a tear to my eye and a smile to my face.

"Laid an egg" or not, Clarkson was the better team in that game, although really I don't think any Minnesota fans are making excuses. Everyone agrees Clarkson deserved it.

That game was FANTASTIC, by the way, epic showcase of the sport.
