Re: 2015-2016 Division I Commitments

Mission: 12 grads - 8 D1; 4 D3

D1 Schools: Vermont (2), Minnesota, MN State, Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell, RIT
D3 School: Williams, St Anselm, St Mary, St Norbert

12 Kids played at Mission from 2-7 years with the average time played at Mission of 5.166 years

Props to Mission....Always admired that Org. One of the few teams out there [e.g. Buffalo Bisons, NJ Colonials, Lady Ducks] who are for the most part "homegrown" teams.

Assabet, SSM, Polar Bears, Team Pitt, NAHA, etc. may do a good job winning National titles and sending kids to college....but they usually do it with a collection of talent they have assembled from around the country. Not sure they can get all the credit for the "development" when in many cases, they get these girls who have been developed elsewhere and are simply making their last stop at SSM, Assabet, etc.

So with that logic college teams don't get all the credit for "development" because these girls are simply making their last stop at a college?

some would question the homegrown label, isn't it really an IL allstar team?

there are lots of home grown teams in MN, I was going to give the number , but then it would probably start an argument because some people don't consider the private HS like HM, BSM, Blake ... homegrown ;)

your local HS, can't get any more home grown than that (but then there's that darn open enrollment thingy)

Assabet does benefit from the influx of out of state players coming into New England to attend prep school. Of course Assabet would never turn away a player who has the ability to make their top team but they are not quite the "Allstar" team you think they are. Take last year's roster:

Players: Years at Assabet:
Laing 8
Winslow 8
Kent 6
Thomlinson 7
DeAngelis 6
Mullins 6
Pate 8
Landry 6
Brooke Wolejko 5
Mallory Souliotis 8
Kelly 8

The 2013 roster did have more of the 1 yr and done candidates but that was because 3 players did a PG year before attending an Ivy. So for this class we will take the credit.

But aren't there few other east coast options that are without risk?

This is pretty consistent with what I've observed over the years. About half the U19 team are long term program members (4+ years) and about half the team are short term (sometimes prep school kids coming from other parts of the country).

I guess the question comes down to how long do you need to be in a program to be considered homegrown. If a kid goes to SSM for 4 years, then while her initial skills weren't developed there, I would certainly consider her a product of SSM.

BTW - team Pitt used to be a national team, but they have effectively been shut off from out of district players by their district management. I would guess that the program will probably cease after this year because the primary person's daughter is graduating and going to college.

Team Pitt was a fun team to watch a couple of years ago. Was talking with some folks at the NAHA tourney and I guess the K. Pippy had it out for them. Of course then Team Pitt raided the Mid-Fairfield team. Hockey & Money

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Commitments

This may be a stupid question but why is the same age group U19 on the girls side and 18U on the boys?
