2015-2016 Coaching Changes

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

It is a tried & true method with some coaches. If fact I would say all coaches do it to some extent. It does not have to be so nasty but still insulting play is one way get them to push themselves harder. No a great way but one way.

Please, lets not go down the same insulting road we did on the MIller deal.

What is somewhat disconcerting is that with Miller you knew exactly who she was, in her office, on the ice, behind the bench, or in the press she is who she is. You might not like her but you cant call her a snake in the grass. This one is scary because when you think about being the parent of a 15 or 16 year old recruit meeting with a coach like this. I guarantee you would not have seen this coming if you met with this coach one on one.

The timing of his resignation should be brought to attention. One week after the season ends?...if Handrahan and Maurice were so bad wouldn't they have been let go sooner? Calculated move. It says the investigation started in November and ends in March? It takes that long?

reading way to much into it without facts to back it up

doesn't make it right or even a viable option, there are far too many other better options
I think maybe you are confusing constructive criticism with insulting, I guess it's true some people are overly sensitive and don't see the difference

so compared to a hound dog/ lounge lizard, she looks good?
maybe you should appear in court for her as a character witness and can point that out

In order for this to happen the college transferring too would have to de commit one of their kids. These D1 programs (most) have their money tied up for the next 2-3 years. A program that's prepared to do something like that says a lot about their integrity & loyalty towards their recruits. Programs that do it right win, and win consistently ie. MN, WI, BU, CU...etc.

take BU out of this post. they left a recruit hanging with no phone or email. gave the money to someone else. she was on her own her senior year. and was a u18.

it happens more than people know...it's a pretty rotten way to run a program.

Your still wrong on this one. I get it you dont like BU maybe even something personal with BD. What you were told here was not correct. Maybe spun to protect feelings or pride but not correct, great player who is in a great program why continue to bring it up?

No, no I am not. In fact it is a very bad way but that is still not an uncommon way. I was simply saying that this sort of thing was not uncommon for mens coaches when I was a kid & I know it is still happening on the mens side today to some extent. Probably should have made that clearer than "not a great way"

Tell me about it. I have talked to coach after games and have even been to some practices and I was shocked by this. I had never witnessed any of this firsthand, and had no idea this was going on behind the scenes. The university did the right thing in this case. I certainly do not and would never condone a coach sexually harassing players or any other abusive treatment of players.

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

If this was going on at OSU, one might presume even in previous seasons, is there any repercussion for Handrahan's former assistants?

I would think not unless one of them was charged with some form of inappropriate behavior. At this point of my life, I've had dozens of former bosses. If one of them gets in trouble, that would in some way implicate me as a former underling? I'd hope not.

I agree but it goes to his knowledge, and tolerance of behaviour. Presumably this behaviour didn't just start with the OSU coach.

So maybe you observe the former assistant's practice or have a five-minute chat where you outline your expectations regarding treatment of the team. It might be different if you already had reason to suspect inappropriate behavior on the part of the assistant, not the former head coach.

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

Did Katie Crowley (then King) suffer any repercussions during the Mutch-Stack incident?

Very good point and agree. Why smear/tar others who were involved with the program IN THE PAST, based on association only. Not Fair to those folks.

Minor point. I thought Barto retired, no?
Means resigned at Mankato. Bourbeau resigned at Brown. Rather frequently when coaches "step down", it wasn't the coach's idea to take that step.

I mentioned that because I saw an interview with her right afterwards and she was explaining that it was time after all these years etc. etc.. Not knowing any of the background my initial response was to assume that her reason(s) were genuine but I recall getting the impression from listening to her that her story didn't seem believable...didn't feel right.

Maybe that was the truth in her case. I think her team finished like 7th in the WCHA that year, so it made me a skeptic.
