2014 USA National Player Development Camp allocations

Re: 2014 USA National Player Development Camp allocations

Congratulations to all,

I have been down this road at the highest levels, its a crap shoot! so many things are taken into consideration, and yes, the best players don't always go!!
The reality is that USA Hockey has done their homework, and they ALREADY know "give or take 2-3 girls who's there! the rest of you are fodder! Don't get me wrong, if you work, get lucky and do something that catches their eye you might get a chance, but for the most part they already know who they are looking at.

I was selected to every camp from 12-16 won National titles, selected too the 18 selects and national team, played on the international stage sporting my country's colors. I was lucky!! I didn't get a shot at the Olympics not a sniff, oh I beat all the numbers, thought that I did the right things to advance the sport and make myself better, but if you want to realize the dream of being an Olympian you need an angle that can be exploited, Twins, short and fast, parents who were/are great athletes or ? or just really good and young!

Making it to the next level in team sports is probably the toughest as it is so subjective, not like track, swimming, or archery where there is a clear consistent winner, this is subject to a group of people watching you, your family and how well do you fit in!

I have known a lot of great athletes and had the privilege of playing with or against a lot of them! I have also watched a lot of them come to the end of their careers, not knowing what to do next.

Play this sport, be the best you can be, hope that it helps to get you a great education and a lot of great memories but don't be blinded and believe that the best make it and that you must not be the best because you didn't.

Re: 2014 USA National Player Development Camp allocations

Didn't participate - rumor: multiple concussions playing HS boys hockey after leaving US team.

You have to be kidding me? Are the parents just that lost? What is the ROI here? If this is true then Ms Dunne's parents might be lost in space. You can't make this up.....This is a PRIME example why girls don't play boys hockey....I am still in utter shock that the parents would allow this......so now instead of getting better as they thought the poor young lady is not playing at all....hmmmmmm....good call on that one.....:(

Wasn't she on the roster for the U.S. u18's in Hungary, late March/early April? (presumably after the boys h.s. season ended.) Did she end up playing? Hope she's o.k.

Re: 2014 USA National Player Development Camp allocations

She was in Hungary and did play. I am sure she doesn't need to attend tryouts to be selected with at large bid by USA Hockey, since she already partcipated with national team. Better to get the necessary rest and recover time and be fully healthy when returning. As far as, it being a "bad call" play with the boys, I don't know the incident rate difference for concussions between boys and girls, but my d's team last year (girls) had 5 concussions between 4 players last season. So I think a similar risk exists no matter where she plays. She was also centralized for a good portion of last season and may not have had as many choices, especially considering the few girls options in Missouri.

Re: 2014 USA National Player Development Camp allocations

I am not seeing Melissa Samoscevich ('97) from SSM on this list. I believe she is from the New England District. She was a member of this past seasons U-18 USA Team and a 3 time National Camp attendee.... Did she not make it to National Camp this year? Seems strange...Very versatile player that can play forward or defense..
