On a more serious note, a few Chicago sports writers dissected the box score and are wondering if the Blackhawks have enough cap room to sign Vinny Scarsella to anchor the power play...

I'm sure there are some players who came through that organization they WISH they could have billed for the ice time and uniform rental.

During the strike year, a couple of the NHL'ers (remaining nameless) were playing the men's C league, a step up from beer league) with a few of their buddies that happened to play on it already here in the Twin Cities area. Their one buddy was the captain of the team, and you could see him get furious at his NHL pals during that first game for not crushing their opponents. Watching the box scores for that league throughout the session, and it became apparent that the NHL'ers weren't contributing on the score sheets much. When you got to watch them, they'd play shutdown D, but only tallied the occasional assist. Some people I knew from that league (I played beer league there) were chuckling because the team captain just steamed silently whenever he was asked about it. Basically, the NHL'ers weren't being jerks the way the captain had wanted. :)

I think they blew it big time by not having it at AT&T. But, if they can get more than 41k (ATT Capacity) into Jeans Stadium, then more power to them.

Nah, it's the big new modern snazzy fancy stadium, they were definitely going to have it there. Plus a lot more money down in Santa Clara to fill the seats.

I think I understand where they're coming from arguing about the local blackouts, but this has "unintended consequences" written all over it.

I don't want my MLB.tv or NHL Gamecenter Live blacked out MORE than it already is. MLB really has it simplified: Is the game on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball? No? No blackout. Is one of the two teams available in your local market? Blacked out.

NHL GCL is just asinine.

I'd like an a la carte option for a team or set of teams. For example, I'd like to watch the Red Sox but not the Brewers. Leafs and Oilers but not the Islanders.

Right now it's all or nothing

Maybe I could add a suit for the lack of Canadian HD broadcasts (or any broadcasts on too many nights) on Center Ice! :rolleyes:

You get them on-line. CentreIce shows SN intermission shows, but does not show TSN or HNIC. On the USA front, I can watch Bruins intermissions, and I THINK Rangers, but nobody else's (Flyers?).

Now that Sportsnet rules Canadian NHL rights (rites?), maybe I'll get more between periods stuff.
