2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Game 1 ticket in Los Angeles - $483
Round-trip airfare from NYC to LAX - $394

Game 3 ticket in New York - $1200

(Prices are the lowest unobstructed view on Stubhub; airline prices are from Kayak)

So it'd be cheaper to fly out Wednesday morning, buy tickets for the game, sleep at the airport (or at a friend's house) and fly back the next day than to see a game in Madison Square Garden.

You could toss in a **** nice hotel room with the change in there as well.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

No, really? Look, I'm not trying to call you out specifically as it seems you and I are totally on the same side. It seems funny that the ONLY time I've ever posted something like that after being on the receiving end of posts/tweets/comments from non-Boston fans about having no right to complain, or how awful ALL Boston sports fan are, when I never ever gloat or do anything else other Boston sports fan do, I get called out for it. Not sure where you've been the last decade...
I know you meant the question rhetorically, but I can give you a good overview of my USCHO posting habits pretty quickly:

OSU Men's & Women's Hockey Threads: Always
Western College Hockey: Often
Eastern College Hockey: Always interested, Sometimes Have The Time
College Football: Always Interested, Sometimes Have The Time
NHL: Mostly Playoffs
MLB: Rarely
NFL: Never

So to the extent you've gotten into scrapes regarding the Red Sox or the Pats, you're correct: I haven't been there.

...but you need to stick around to get my back and call others out when they do the same thing. :) It would be a big help!!
If present, I'll do just that.:)

I will say I've posted the "don't apologize for winning" point several times over the years. I've defended Buckeye Football and more than one BIG Hockey team on this subject. Not that you're responsible for knowing that; I'm guessing those threads aren't your regular hangouts.;)

You could toss in a **** nice hotel room with the change in there as well.

Priceline has a *** hotel at LAX for $106 for the night.
$483
+394
+106
=983
a savings of $217.

If you wanted lower bowl seats, the lowest priced seats in LA were $774 vs $1590 for MSG. So that would be a $316 savings.

Note: Prices for Game 1 have dropped sharply. Get-in price is now "only" $364. Game 3 on Monday is down to $1174.

Saturday night is $517. You can book a vacation on Priceline (RT airfare and 4 nights at the Hilton) and go to both games 1 and 2 for $1881 vs going to game 3 for $1174. So essentially double the hockey and a 4-day vacation in Los Angeles for $707. Good deal if you can do it.

Rick Morrissey, right again!

For Blackhawk Fans: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/2783...for-another-stanley-cup-run.html#.U43dRfldWSo

(Though I would love a big stay-at-home defensive defenseman to add to the mix. I know, I know, get in line.)

I agree that nothing should happen with the core, but they need to move out the dead weight like Rosie, Zus, Steeger and even Bollig - or at least Bollig should be the 13th or 14th forward.

Gotta get Morin, TT and Even Clendening some ice time from the start of the season.

As to your last point...

Word is that he could see some time in the bigs this season.

Great article; thanks for posting the link.

While I cringe at the term dead weight, you're on target. With Handzus at 37 and Rozival at 35, it's not unfair to say the Hawks need to get younger at those positions. Let's not forget their many contributions -- including a certain OT goal in Game 6 -- but yes. More energy needed.

As for Bollig, it's good to have him on the roster for certain opponents. But if he was supposed to be the new Dave Bolland, that isn't working out. FWIW, Bollig and Bolland had similar scoring totals for the regular season. That sounds OK until you take into account that Bollig played the full season for the Hawks, while Bolland played only 23 games for the Leafs, due to the ankle injury.

It was a nice goal by Zus, but it doesn't erase a season where he slowed the second line to a crawl. Not his fault that Q misused him (at 2nd line center), but gotta get him off the roster so Q no longer has him as an option.

Bollig was never meant to be Bolland - that's quite an insult to Bolland.

Bollig is a slightly more skilled John Scott who can't win a fight - so what does he really provide? His supposed physicality was non-existent during the playoffs where he looked completely out of his league.

Q has his pets - Zus, Bollig, Versteeg - that none of the rest of us can understand how they are getting time over scratches who are clearly more talented. Bowman needs to send the pets to live on a farm so we can open up some spots for the guys who are waiting in Rockford.

Rozsival isn't THAT bad. He's 35 and probably doesn't have many more seasons ahead of him, but as a third-pairing guy (that's what he was, no?), you could do worse.

He's not horrible, but there are guys down on the farm that need to come up at some point and Q has proven to be incredibly stubborn when it comes to giving most (not all) young guys a reasonable chance. As long as he has his pets around, guys like Morin will languish in the press box while Bollig and Versteeg combine for 7 minutes in a game. Why even dress them at that point?

As far as Rosie specifically, need to get Clendening and Johns going and the 5 ahead of Rosie are better than him.

Both Rosie and Zus have a nice parting gift in their rings from last season. Good luck fellas!

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

For a package of both skill and physicality, the Hawks should try to unite Toews with his former linemate, T.J. Oshie. I'm sure Oshie can be had for a song.

The Blues aren't trading Oshie to the Hawks. No way.

I watched Clendening play "defense" on Comm Ave for two years. No thanks. I love our top four, but would love to see a player like Johns get a shot if he's the next Dennis Seidenberg. (A guy can dream can't he?) And yes, help at center or give the kids a chance. Regarding Bollig: Doesn't he fill a necessary role? Fourth line banger. If you find better "energy" guys to play with him, he's not so bad.

Easy now. My point was that Bolland > Bollig, both past and present. Could be that I should have described an even greater disparity than I did, but I don't believe that rises to the level of an insult!

To take it one step further, I didn't think Bolland was expendable last summer, and still don't. My recollection isn't clear; maybe it was strictly a cap move?

Frolik and Bolland were both cap casualties.
