2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

The Hawks had some serious puck luck for Goals 2 and 3.
Agreed, though there was lots of puck luck for both offenses tonight.

How often does a player take the baseball swing at the puck and have the goal stand-up? Looking at the replays, I think Carter's was good -- barely. Credit for hand/eye coordination for sure, but the fact the path of the puck peaked below the bar was good fortune. As for the Williams goal: Definitely a great finish, but the juicy rebound came off a shot block that backfired. For that matter, the Toffoli goal also was the direct result of a block gone bad.

Bottom Line For Game 7? Both teams got good bounces tonight; the Kings just got the last one...

Bottom line is you can't wait till game 5 of round 3 to start playing.

Or... you can and then you put yourself in a position to have last night happen to you.

I actually thought these games were #OppositeGirl proof. While I preferred to see LA win, I would've been ok with Chicago winning. The only team I did not want to see in the finals was Montreal, so I got that.

Sorry for you, I know you wanted it as it's been a WHOLE 12 MONTHS since the Hawks won the Cup. See what I did there all you Boston hating posters?? ;)
Gotta file a partial dissent here. Sure, fans with titles should be grateful. But real opportunities to win a Cup aren't the norm. For most franchises, the drought years greatly outnumber the legitimate contender years. I say fans have every right to "mourn" the opportunities lost. Even fans rooting for a repeat.

Put together a special mix of high end talent and depth, and you'll have a shot at a the title over the course of several seasons. But once that window of opportunity closes, you may be waiting a couple of decades for another legitimate shot. Gotta do everything thing you can, to close the deal as many times as you can, when that window is open.

Yes, in college hockey contending annually is more doable. And yes, the Red Wings have remained contenders for a very long time and provide a dramatic exception to the general rule. But for most NHL teams, "there's always next year" isn't really the case.

Or, since I'm not a Boston hater, maybe I'm missing your specific meaning...

Headline scrolling on screen during today show.

"A pair of hawks knock a woman unconscious in her Forest Hills driveway."

I'm going to guess they mean the bird and not the players. But I was briefly confused by it.

You are missing it. I remember one night a few years back, the Bruins lost a series to the Capitals, the Red Sox had a terrible loss and the Celtics lost a playoff game the same night. I had posted - "Tough night to be a Boston fan" and got more than one "You have no right to complain because all your teams have won lately" type of reply. I'm sorry. I can't be just a little upset that on one night, three of my teams lost, and one of them's season ended?? And it happens all the time. Yes, Boston has had more than its share of success in the last decade but like you said, fans have very right to mourn the opportunities so I should be able to give it back when the same thing happens to another team.

So in yet another Stanley Cup playoff series this spring the home team was unable to overcome the dreaded, Game Seven, home ice advantage.

Got it now; and we mostly agree. You had every right to post "Tough night to be a Boston fan" when you did. Personally, I try to maintain a consistent stance that fans should never have to apologize or feel guilty for "winning too much." And certainly that includes the fans of Boston's pro teams.

One nuance: When you opt to "give it back" on the board, you're going to hit innocent bystanders as well. But we all know that; it's just the nature of the beast.

No, really? Look, I'm not trying to call you out specifically as it seems you and I are totally on the same side. It seems funny that the ONLY time I've ever posted something like that after being on the receiving end of posts/tweets/comments from non-Boston fans about having no right to complain, or how awful ALL Boston sports fan are, when I never ever gloat or do anything else other Boston sports fan do, I get called out for it. Not sure where you've been the last decade but you need to stick around to get my back and call others out when they do the same thing. :) It would be a big help!!

You all should just be thankful you're not from Toronto! :D. However, the Jays are on a tear right now, much to the delight of my parents.

Brewers are in the mix and hope always springs eternal at this time of year for the Packers.

I'll get by. ;):)

Hey, Toronto doesn't have it all bad. The Argonauts just won the Grey Cup a couple years back!

We also have nothing else to cheer for, professionally.

The Admirals don't do it for you? What about the Bucks? (I only recalled what the Bucks were because I saw an article about Balmer purchasing another team and the Bucks were mentioned.)

Happens every now and then. :)

Heck, the Raptors made the post season for the first time in forever and even TFC is playing inspired football!

With the money they splashed around TFC better be playing more than "inspired football".
