Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!
Yes, Gurt.
That photo is bittersweet as hell. Mostly bitter. I know that the North Stars weren't always at the top of the standings, but dammit that was my team. The colors, the logo, the history, falling asleep listening to Al Shaver on my POS clock radio next to my bed. ****** I'd have been happy to watch them play at Target Center if it meant keeping them in town.
I hear ya.
Don't forget that era wasn't championship caliber for the Hawks either and I ended every season in some state of dismay. I had similar experiences growing up with the Hawks... listening to their broadcasts with an AM radio when I was supposed to be asleep an hour before.
Of course, my team didn't leave.
As much as I hated the North Stars as a rival, I was really, REALLY bummed when they left. Hated to lose that rival and the juice that went with it. Also - just didn't seem right as even back then, I got how important hockey was to Minnesota culture.
Can't imagine what it was like for real fans such as yourself.
I imagine the photo was from the Finals year? Maybe?
Part of my foggy memory wants to think that I might have seen this car, but it's so long ago. Was up at the Met for 16 games between the Hawks & North Stars from maybe 90 through 92 - both regular season and playoffs.
Saw 2... count them... 2 Blackhawk victories. And I don't believe any of those were in the playoffs.
So Freud, can you see where some of my completely unreasonable hatred of certain things Minnesota may stem from? Or at least where it first took root?
Oh yeah and went up to see the North Stars play the Bruins and the Kings, the former coz a buddy was a Bruins fan and to see Bourque (incredible) the latter so I could see Greztky in person, but he was injured by the time the game rolled around.
