Yes, Gurt.

That photo is bittersweet as hell. Mostly bitter. I know that the North Stars weren't always at the top of the standings, but dammit that was my team. The colors, the logo, the history, falling asleep listening to Al Shaver on my POS clock radio next to my bed. ****** I'd have been happy to watch them play at Target Center if it meant keeping them in town.

I hear ya.

Don't forget that era wasn't championship caliber for the Hawks either and I ended every season in some state of dismay. I had similar experiences growing up with the Hawks... listening to their broadcasts with an AM radio when I was supposed to be asleep an hour before.

Of course, my team didn't leave.

As much as I hated the North Stars as a rival, I was really, REALLY bummed when they left. Hated to lose that rival and the juice that went with it. Also - just didn't seem right as even back then, I got how important hockey was to Minnesota culture.

Can't imagine what it was like for real fans such as yourself.

I imagine the photo was from the Finals year? Maybe?

Part of my foggy memory wants to think that I might have seen this car, but it's so long ago. Was up at the Met for 16 games between the Hawks & North Stars from maybe 90 through 92 - both regular season and playoffs.

Saw 2... count them... 2 Blackhawk victories. And I don't believe any of those were in the playoffs.

So Freud, can you see where some of my completely unreasonable hatred of certain things Minnesota may stem from? Or at least where it first took root?

Oh yeah and went up to see the North Stars play the Bruins and the Kings, the former coz a buddy was a Bruins fan and to see Bourque (incredible) the latter so I could see Greztky in person, but he was injured by the time the game rolled around.

Remember when at the start of each North Star power play they would play the opening to Welcome to the Jungle SUPER loud? It would consume you.

Just got chills thinking about it.

And of course heard it a ton coz the Hawks were goony against you guys back then for some reason and of course the refs had obviously been paid off by someone in Minnesota and the ice must have had hydraulics that could tilt it in the North Stars favor and Ciccarelli swallows, etc, etc, etc...

:p:D

I remember them playing Rock & Roll Part 2 a lot also...

-sigh-

:(

'91 during the 4-2 series win. :)

As far as your characterizing, my only peeve is that from my chair you seem like a fair and reasonable dude and I've no doubt we'd buy each other drinks should we meet and clearly have a number of things in common. I just don't think there is really all that much difference between our states when it comes down to the bottom line. I like to make fun that the average Wiconsinite is fat, drunk, obnoxious and sports stupid, but I don't actually ascribe that to but a small % and don't go out of my way to rebut fans from there with commentary such as, "That's so Wisconsin of you". For every dubbers there are 10 others that love the state but don't really feel that provincial and no more than anyplace else. People from MN are proud to be from here and yes sometimes it gets over the top, but we already know that, right? :)

I hate you. :)

I was at all three games up there of that series, so maybe I did see that car.

To your other point(s), it doesn't bother me as much as it may appear. I just like to argue sometimes and around here that's an easy one to engage in. It's kind of an annoying hobby/habit of mine.

I certainly don't think that a majority of you are like that, no matter what it may seem like with what I write. None of my room mates were and none of the guys I play with now are.

I've actually cut down on my engaging of that subject - present thread excluded.

I don't doubt that most of us would get along great should we know each other personally - which some of you obviously do.

That said... GO HAWKS! :p

As I mentioned three pages ago before the Gurt and Slap Shot love fest... (Get a room! :) ) I so wish the Wild could just slip on that sweet green sweater with the big N. So choice. Dino Ciccarelli Sucks! Go Hawks!!!

Am I missing the beginning of Hawks-Wild!? Why isn't it on the NHL Network? Grrrrr.
