Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!
I would agree with this. However, since Cooke has a rep and Seabrook did not I imagine they stupidly take that into consideration. What Seabrook did is egregious and borderline criminal.
BS.
Check out Ott's hit last night that wasn't called. The difference was that Keith didn't get hurt and that outcome had nothing to do with Ott's intent. Just dumb luck.
Ask any player and they'd rather get hit high than have their knee taken out.
Cooke will get a long rest because he's a repeat offender.
And yes, it was equally bush league that Bickel did it and it's not my fault that the league lets him get away with it.
Sticking out your leg like that is one of the worst things a player can do on the ice to another player. Not the worst, but way up there.
My take on all of this is that outcome should have no bearing on punishment. The act alone should warrant the punishment.
If the NHL would adopt this, it would cut down on the perception (reality) that all of this seems so arbitrary. A check from behind or a knee or an egregious charging/boarding is bad in its own right and shouldn't need a catastrophic injury to be punished.
Adopt this and you'd cut down on the incidents real fast as players would know that they're in trouble regardless of the likely event that the player they just cheap-shotted will most likely get back up.
I mean, where else does this logic hold? You don't get to drive drunk as long as you don't kill anyone or hit something.
