2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Wow, just watched video of the Cooke hit and the Bickel hit on Sobotka. If Bickel did not get suspended when he CLEARLY targeted the knee than no way should Cooke get suspended for just taking a wide stance and having Barrie try to avoid it and hitting knees. In fact if you watch the NHL video on the topic, Cooke's was less severe than many of the examples the NHL cites as NOT being suspendable.

Not sure I agree with it, I'd personally err on the side of safety and suspend anyone who makes such a reckless play. But if the NHL were to be consistent (OK, you can stop laughing now), Cooke would not get a suspension for this.

Yeah, I don't understand the NHL's video at all and under their own guidelines they have no problem with knee to knee injurious play. They also create their own silliness by being so inconsistent.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Ask any player and they'd rather get hit high than have their knee taken out.

This is true and yet another reason I no longer care if these guys are slobbering all over themselves and can't remember to zip up their fly 20 years after their playing days are over. If and when the players start caring about head shots, I'll worry more if my player is concussed than if they blow out an ACL and are gone for 6-12 months. No matter what rhetoric any of them spout when the need to be PC is thrust upon them, these guys don't really care today about the effects of repeated concussions tomorrow. It's the primary reason why hits like this are still prevalent even after years of the various leagues trying to suspend them into the past.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Of course who
Players are stupid when it comes to their own protection. Using this as an example is dumb. All the players can see is that a blown knee keeps them from playing today. Concussions keeps them from functioning when their 50 and they don't care about it until they reach that age. The league isn't worried about knees, they are worried about $50B lawsuits from not diagnosing and treating concussions.

And this is sad, because the players now know as much as the league the potential ill-effects of concussions, yet they continue to deliver head shot after head shot, and then the union continues to fight virtually every suspension the NHL subsequently hands out. Until it can be shown demonstrably going forward the players HAVE adjusted their behavior, lawsuits like those of recent vintage need to be laughed out of court.

So can it be confirmed that Gurt hates everything about Minnesota sports and will do anything in his power to spin things to fit his delusions?

Struck a nerve by bringing up Marvin did I?

Actually hoping that the Wild win this series, so there's that...

Only Minnesota sports that I "hate" are the Vikings and the Gophers. The Wild don't bother me (yet - time may make them a rival) and there are enough former Badgers and WCHA players to make me want them to win at least this series.

I only dislike the teams in Minnesota that are big rivals to the teams that I follow.

NEXT!

PS - What in what I said was even remotely anti-Minnesota? That a knee to knee hit is cheap? That Cooke would get a suspension because he's a repeat offender? Oh wait, it's the Marvin thing isn't it?

Let's be fair here, anyone not posting about the Minnesota Wild in this thread is in the minority. It's bizarre that we don't see more posts about the Avs/Red Wings/Bruins/Rangers/Sabres given where college hockey is played in this country, but oh well... I think the one Maple Leafs fan is more active than the rest of the teams I just named combined.

It is cheap. He is a repeat offender. Was his hit malicious? Doubtful. Was it illegal? Of course. I was at the front of the line of people down on the Wild signing Cooke. Hated it. This season he was ranked 144th in PIMs...way behind such known thugs as Nate Prosser, David Legwand, and Evgeni Malkin. Cooke had 54 PIMs. Meanwhile you've got guys like Tom Sestito, Chris Neil, and Antoine Roussel who were all over 200. Cooke took no major penalties. Those three guys were all in double digits (Sestito took NINETEEN majors). But Cooke is a name brand so he'll get smoked. And that's wrong.

And nobody seems to remember Jesse Martin, the kid from DU who was almost killed by Brad Malone from UND.

Well the Wings are looking like a big bag of suck right now. I feel like I'm watching MSU with the lack of offense they're showing.
