And the Blues are just angels and those brutish Hawks are such meanies.

Still got your Wangs glasses I see.

LOL
I was just pointing out that CBC had plenty of footage to pour over. :p
By no means am I going to sit and defend anything that Ott, Reaves, and Roy have done. They're just as bad.

It just seems like the Blues got under the Blackhawk's skin. I don't recall Captain Serious ever being a big "chirper" but there he was, yelling at Backes when Backes didn't know what decade it was. Or Keith and Sharp, usually two composed players, acting like Dan Carcillo.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Seabrook straightened out his back just before the hit to make sure his first point of contact was the head of Backes. And they spend too much time talking about whether or not the player "leaves his feet." In fact if you leave your feet you are no longer propelling yourself and the hit is actually less violent (even if only slightly so). Just like players who slide into first base get there slower because they have stopped propelling themselves, otherwise known as running.
Not the case at all, actually. Watch a player's legs before they hit someone...they're not propelling themselves at all, they're gliding. Leaving your feet adds to the momentum you already have going in for a hit. There's a reason it's illegal.

Seabrook should get 4 games, the same amount Rupp got for his hit on Oshie...but, he'll probably get 2.

CHI: Shaw
STL: Oshie

Seabs will be getting a suspension though. Backes has certainly dished it out over the years, so I'm not gonna weep too much for him, but that was a dangerous hit and suspension worthy.

That was a dirty hit, and the half of the game I saw the Blackhawks were probably "overly aggressive" to turn a phrase. I say that as someone with no dog in that fight.

Bickell's knee shot was dirty as well. I'm not happy with hockey right now.

Did you notice Reaves getting Toews in the jaw in game 1?

Any of the other bush league tactics that the Blues have used over the years against Chicago and other skilled teams?

I'm not happy that the Hawks are getting sucked into this kind of play because they usually stay above it (like they did against Boston last year) and beat teams with skill. Not gonna feel sorry for the Blues though. They have it coming.

Of course, proof's in the pudding though and the Blues are up 2-0, so there's that...

i don't recall anything in particular the bruins did last year, seemed like a pretty straight up series to me

Nothing cheap per se, just very physical in an attempt to take the Hawks off their game. Hawks can't match teams like that hit for hit and usually don't try, instead opting for puck possession and skill.

St. Louis is in fact borderline cheap and today, the Hawks allowed themselves to get sucked in.

Happened a few times against Vancouver back in the day too.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

ya. whenever i see the hawks, i see teams going after toews more than someone like kane. you'd think it would be reversed but toews seems to always have that target on his back. he's not as big as some other elite centers, certainly takes a beating

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Two things with Seabrook. I thought he was late and the principal point of contact was the head. It's worthy of a suspension. I like Seabrook and all, but that's going to cost him.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Seabrook's hit was bad, but I also think the fact that hits like that are uncharacteristic should be taken into account.

Officiating wasn't great today. I don't remember what the call against Toews was, but it was pretty weird to see him go to the box for a play on which he didn't even touch the St. Louis player.

They're saying a telephone hearing for Seabs, so no more than 4 games. I'm guessing 1 or 2 because he has no history.

Haven't heard how Backes is doing. That was a hellacious hit and he was clearly scrambled afterwards to the point that he tried to go after Keith instead of Seabs. Probably what Toews was chirping him about.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

I have given up on the NHL or their players actually ever doing away with players targeting heads. If they want to eliminate it, suspend players for hits like this for 25 or 30 games minimum for a first offense. I guess if they don't care why should I?

This is my take on the NHL and the players. The NHL doesn't really care about stopping hits like the one Seabrook gave out. The players continue to do it to each other. So I just could care less about it.

Seabrook's hit was bad, but I also think the fact that hits like that are uncharacteristic should be taken into account.

This is a big reason why these type of hits aren't going away. Everyone knows a player can get caught doing it 4-5 times at least before the NHL even thinks about being serious with a suspension.
