2014 Sochi Olympic Games Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Re: 2014 Sochi Olympic Games Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

I always just look on the site of one of the participating schools, where one can find other features like live blogs.

Yeah, I had to do this the last few weekends. But it shouldn't be necessary. It's not at all hard to provide links centrally; trying to follow all these post-season games shouldn't require dedicated investigative efforts even for diehard fans.

But it shouldn't be necessary.
True. The problem with our sport from an NCAA perspective is that it doesn't involve a basketball or a football. Because it overlaps basketball season so heavily, and every Tom and Susie that only watches the Super Bowl for the commercials is going to fill out an NCAA bracket for their office pool, all of the NCAA resources go toward the basketball tournaments. Women's hockey gets the bare-bones minimum. Or less. :(

Exactly. I get that about the NCAA's site. Kinda. But there's still stuff there about other sports like swimming et al.

Doesn't excuse in the least the fact that there is nothing on Quinnipiac's Frozen Four Tournament site. Duh. That's only for WOMEN'S HOCKEY fans. Isn't that kinda basic?, otherwise why waste any resources on the specific FF site at all. Does it not even occur to them that there are more fans of the game than can actually attend in person?

QU doesn't own any of the broadcast rights (that means TV, radio and internet) to the Frozen Four. They don't have any control over whether internet streaming or live stats are available, where they're available, or any of the conditions. If you don't like something, don't blame them because it's not on them.

Regardless of control of rights, it still doesn't stop them from putting the relevant info on their website. Like is there going to be coverage or not? If not, say so. If so, indicate when the links will likely be active.

Re: 2014 Sochi Olympic Games Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

I believe it was Carpenter.

Feel badly for her...similar to the two German players who had the puck bounce off them and into their own net.

The above post was in response to a previous poster's wondering who the US player was who tapped the puck back to Vetter in the first US vs Canada game in Sochi that resulted in a goal. And it was, in fact, Carpenter.

However, for what it's worth, allow me to dismiss his/her possible inference, and certainly mine in the above quote, that Carpenter was responsible for the goal. Just watched the game again yesterday and even with the advantage of instant replays of replays at your fingertips the only thing that was certain from the Canadian broadcast was that Carpenter did tap the puck back to Vetter...that is, until a final camera angle, among many, from above was shown late in the discussion and confusion.

Carpenter did not score on Vetter, Vetter scored on herself.

That camera angle clearly shows Carpenter tapping the puck back to Vetter with the puck travelling at an unthreatening speed toward Vetter. Vetter reached out with her glove hand to trap the puck against the ice but her body was twisted to her right with her right side being higher than her left side. Sight of the puck is then lost under Vetter only to emerge shortly thereafter travelling substantially faster than when it reached her from Carpenter. I suspect that her unconscious effort to also use her glove hand/arm to stabilize her balance caused her to misplay the puck with her glove and to actually help it along at very noticeable increased speed.

So, Carpenter doesn't wear this one.

To me it really doesn't matter how it went in, it did and that's hockey.
